Dear Sierra Leone Networkers,
A few years ago we founded the Sierra Leone Network in order to contribute to the postwar development efforts in our beloved homeland of Sierra Leone. At the inception of the Network, we emphasized political neutrality because we wanted Sierra Leoneans from all shades and stripes to have a central forum where they could all share ideas and efforts to help our needy country. And they did. At our inception, we had well over 50 members who regularly called in and donated their hard-earned money from all across the world, including Sierra Leone itself, to help our homeland. Our teleconferences were lively and lasted several hours. We embarked upon a few noteworthy projects including being the first organization to clean up Lumley and its immediate environs. We also worked very hard and persevered over a couple of months to register our organization with the United States
Federal Government as a 501 (c) organization, which has implications for our status as an organization set up for charity. 501 (c)means that any organization registered under that section of the United States tax code is apolitical etc.
Over the course of several months now, other well-meaning Networkers and I have patiently stood by and watched the radical transformation of the Network Forum (and the Sierra Leone Policy Watch Forum-less so for the latter) into something else other than the purpose for which we intended it. To be unequivocal, we have watched Amadu Massally, and to a small extent Yaya Fanusie, transform the forum into pretty much a propaganda tool for disseminating the messages of the incumbent government in Freetown. This is not the purpose for which we created the Network. When Amadu Massally joined the Network a few years after we formed it, i am sure that a few others and myself were very clear in telling him the intended purpose of the organization that we had created. I don't think that we told him at any time that the organization was intended to serve as a support tool for any incumbent government. It is therefore
puzzling that Amadu Massally has elected by himself to steer our forum into something for which we did not intend it.
This email is intended to serve as a warning to Amadu Massally to cease to use this forum as a tool for disseminating his political messages. He must do so immediately upon reading this email or risk the consequences. We all have our political preferences. I have friends in both the APC and the SLPP and other political parties but i have never violated the privacy of someone else by choosing to use this forum to spread my political messages to them without invitation. There is afterall virtue in political neutrality that any wise person who has followed Sierra Leone politics should know. I respect the privacy of others and understand that they may be reading any posts i send out to the forum.
The profanity-laced, taunting and sometimes prejudicial emails that Amadu Massally has continually spewed out over this forum ever since he used it to declare his political support for the APC is confounding. This is underscored by the fact that he was not a founding member of the organization. He did not put his money into our efforts to register the organization so why should he use it as a personal tool?
Let the message be very clear, Amadu Massally should apologize to everyone on the forum and desist from posting additional nonsense to the forum otherwise i will forward copies of all his messages to the Internal Revenue Service in pursuit of a formal legal complaint that he and a few others have violated the intended purpose for which we founded the organization ( a federal crime that i am very certain of). I have diligently compiled all posts by Amadu Massally and others insulting certain ethnic groups etc. on this forum as well as other inflammatory posts they have sent out to everyone.
I returned from Sierra Leone on Tuesday and really wished i would have found some justification for Amadu's posts but i did not and it is disheartening that he has taken it upon himself to use our forum to spread false messages and non-truths. Let this email be a clear warning for him to stop using our forum for a purpose for which we did not intend to use it.
Sincerely,
Fodei Batty |

Well, I will act as the spokesperson
for all those who vainly seek a forum in [SL] from which to make themselves
heard. ~ Thomas Sankara
Amadu Massally,
Other well-meaning members of the Sierra Leone Network such as Mustapha Sesay, Omar Kuyateh and Mohamed Serry will tell you about my contributions to the Sierra Leone Network both financially and in terms of writing the first constitution for the organization. I wrote the first draft of the constitution, not you or anyone else. I could also dig deeper and find bank receipts for checks i wrote to the organization. To address some of your points:
1. I did not attend the events at Howard and other places on the East Coast because i was in graduate school at the time and those events coincided with my school work. You can ask your friend Robin-Coker to attest to that and he will if he is truthful.
2. I went to Sierra Leone and Liberia in 2006 for field research for my doctoral thesis. During my stay in Sierra Leone between 2006 and 2009, i taught at Fourah Bay College for almost free. It was my way of giving back to Mama Sierra Leone. In Early 2007 i was hired under a UNDP Capacity Building Program Grant to work with the National Policy Coordinating Unit (NPCU) in the Office of the President. I served in that capacity until the transition of power from the Kabbah Government to the Koroma Government. Following the ascension to power of the Koroma Government, i served in a similar capacity until April 2008 when i returned to the United States to defend my dissertation. Upon the conclusion of that chapter, the position of Policy Analyst in a new proposed Strategy and Policy Unit (SPU) in the Office of the President at State House was advertised in local papers across Sierra Leone. I applied for the position and
was interviewed by phone by two officials from the UNDP, Abubakarr Multi Kamara who is now ambassador to China, and an official in Tony Blair's Governance Assistance Program. I emerged as the best candidate from those interviews and was hired for the position. I traveled to Sierra Leone using my own money to take up the position and resigned after a few months to return to the United States for personal reasons.
3. Obai Taylor-Kamara ( whom i have a lot of respect for ecause of his intelligence and self-respecting attitude) was my colleague at State House. I never worked under him and we were not in the same unit. He is copied in this email.
4. Will i ever snitch about you to Obai? I rather discuss refuse at Kroo Bay than waste my precious time contemplating you for a second so get that point off your petty mind.
5. You may be the list controller for this SL Network Discussion group and that is because upon my departure to Freetown in 2006 you wormed your way into the group and with your persistence (harassment) got other members to elect you to head the group. I remember someone saying that was the end of the Network when they allowed you come on board.
6. It is the same point other people are making now about you swinging your loyalty to the APC. Someone said the incumbent party is going to face a difficult time because you have joined them because nothing good follows where you go. Have you stopped to ask yourself why?
7. You once tried to mess with me after you joined the SL Network and i deftly avoided those exchanges at the time because i really thought you were younger than me. Your behavior was so immature that it left me wondering about a few things. I did not want you to disrespect me because i thought it will do no good. Little did i know that you are way older than me. In fact you are much older than even my immediate older brother so let me tell you this in clear terms...if you want to go down the route of replying me in disrespectful terms, bring it on. I was born in the seventies and if you were not, which i know you are not, be very careful.....you have been warned!
8. This forum was created to serve the purposes of an organization we founded regardless of its demise. It has been used by everyone, including the misuse by you, to make their points so i will use it to make any points i want to make about political neutrality and you better not mess with it or you will suffer the consequences.
9. I have warned you enough for one day but i doubt you will listen because i have observed you for a while and you seem to be just that kind of brainless moron, never mind your incessant rants across social media. I hope your political ambitions will caution you to respect the instructions that i gave you to keep this forum neutral...otherwise prepare yourself for the consequences.
In very sincere terms,
Fodei

Amadu Massally,
You are a funny, petulant old man. Act your age or face the consequences, foolish man!
Sincerely,
Fodei
P.S. Don't let me tell you who i'm trying to impress at SLPW...trust me that you don't want to know.
