Hi Everyone! We NEED VOLUNTEERS! Call Nan at 885-6085 or send an email
to na...@flex.com if you can help us! Great fun -- a great cause!

Poi pancakes, hot off the griddle, will be served up at First
Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007 at the Waimea Hawaiian Homestead Farmers
Market. Community volunteer John Romoa, with the assistance of the
Rotary Club of Waimea, the Waimea Lions Club and Slow Food Hawai'i, is
organizing the pancake fest from 7:30 to 10 a.m.

Pancakes, drizzled with fresh coconut syrup, macadamia nuts and
bananas will be $4.50 a plate; Moa'ula (Red Rooster) coffee from Ka'u
will be $1.25. Poi for the pancakes will be donated by the Mock Chew
family of Waipio Valley, makers of Mokuwai Piko Poi which is sold each
Saturday at the market. Proceeds from the event will benefit Mala'ai,
the school garden at Waimea Middle School.

Besides the delicious pancakes, First Saturday promises to be another
exciting market with a variety of product offerings. Among the new
additions to the weekly market are:
· Seizan Bonk of Kozen Farm featuring organic vegetables including
mustard greens and daikon.
· Flavio Miche of J.A. Farm selling salad green mix, baby romaine,
arugula and cilantro.
· Helen Setterfield-Wright of Na'au Nanea has an assortment of
baking mixes, dip blends, hot cocoa mix and other goodies each week.
· Kimberly Erb will be introducing her naturally grown beef jerky.
· Yesenia Barreto will be introducing her sunflower and wheat grass
sprouts.
Another addition to the Saturday market has been the mobile wood
fired brick oven, producing pizzas to order. Annie Howes and her
Butler Service with Aloha crew are there early, stoking up the oven to
insure crispy crusts topped with your choice of goodies.

Almost 25 vendors participate at the market each week, swelling to 35
to 40 on First Saturdays. Shoppers can find a wider variety of
vegetables, fruits, prepared foods, plants, flowers and crafts every
Saturday.

The Waimea Hawaiian Homestead Farmers' Market is held every Saturday
morning, 7 a.m. to noon. It is located on Mamalahoa Hwy. just two
miles east of Waimea town.
