We have completed adding addresses of new members to this list, and
there are now over 430 on it. We welcome information from around the
island on local food and sustainable ag related events.

**Slow Food Hawaii will be at the Hawaiian Homestead Market tomorrow
(assuming the weather is not awful), so stop by and say hello.

**There are dozens of classes and events involving gardening around
the island in the next several months. If you might be interested in
raising chickens, saving seeds, growing kalo, helping a Puna farmer,
etc., , bookmark Hawaii Homegrown Food Network's Newsletter at
http://www.agroforestry.net/hhfn/hhfn8-Nov2009.html .

**Know Your Farmer Assn. is inviting people on Nov. 7, 10 am to 5pm
to Milk and Honey Farm in Pahoa. They will do a variety of tasks and
share a healthy farm salad lunch. Call KYFA for details and to sign up
at 936-7040

**Edwin Goto's Village Burger is under construction at Parker Ranch
Shopping Center in Waimea, by the food court. The sign says "Most
Local"! I hope that applies to the meat. Tako Taco also serves
burgers made from local beef. [On a less pleasant note, if you are
still eating industrial beef and want to receive recall alerts, go to
http://www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls/ and sign up.]

**I have heard of the new menu at Manta at the Mauna Kea and of some
spectacular sounding desserts from local products, but haven't
actually seen the menu yet.

**Things I learned at Hamakua Alive! two weeks ago: Pauilo School has
a wonderful garden, with chickens, a watchdog goose, asparagus!, a
large fig tree in a screened enclosure, and plenty more. JJ Meat
Market in Honokaa, which has lots of local cuts of beef delivers to
Waimea (and other places). You can get fresh and salted duck eggs at
Taro Patch Gifts in Honokaa.

**Two weeks ago Choice Mart (Capt. Cook) had a full page ad in West
Hawaii Today for local products! Please consider calling the store
and complimenting them on supporting local farmers and ask them to
keep it up. 323-3994

**I have been asked about sources for local turkey (other than the
ones you see by the road), but don't know of anyone raising them for
consumption. If you do, please let me know. I realize it's much too
late for this Thanksgiving, but we can get our forks ready for next
year.
