Some cool things going on in August you may be interested in! Don't forget to check out our calendar regularly for all food-related events. Let us know if there is anything you want us to post. 

1. Urban Agriculture and Food Policy Training, in Atlanta, GA. Saturday August 20th. This would be great for anyone interested in helping build the grassroots efforts here in Alachua County for urban agriculture! You can share your ideas and inspiration with us. Let us know if you attend, so we can download what you learned when you get back!! The registration fee is very reasonable and would make for a fun weekend up in Atlanta! 2. Gainesville Area Bee Club Meeting at UF, Thursday August 4 7pm.
The new Gainesville Area Bee Club meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm at the Entomology Lab at UF. The club's mission is to educate the public, mentor new beekeepers and have fun learning about honey bees. Membership dues are $12/year. 3. Wild Edible Mushroom Workshop, Brooker, FL. Saturday August 13th

This will be a full day of learning the bounty of our Florida edible and medicinal mushrooms. Oliver Moore (long time funguy of Abundant Edible Landscapes and I (Mycol) will download and fill your heads with as much info you can absorb and turn you into the fungiphylles that we are! The workshop will start with mycology 101 and how to key out and identify mushrooms. We will then go on a mushroom “hunt” in the afternoon and cook up any scores. A mushroom slide show will be presented in the evening if time allows. We will also discuss medicinal mushrooms and growing techniques. 

Bring camera, notebook, field guides, bug spray, grub etc.

Cost: 75$ (or equivalent barter)
Date: Aug 13th, 9am to evening

Note: will be limited to 25 students.

Directions: mapquest the address, you'll see some signage when you are near in north Alachua County.

This is a rain or shine event as we have a large porch to sit under in case of rain.

This is the second annual shroom teaching on the Finca as last years was a very fruitful endeavor. Hope to see you!
