It was all in the name of saving face!  This was the first time LA and Contador were riding together in a race.  LA needed a way to bow out without looking weak...    ;-)
 
(of course, the above is a completely unfounded made up rumour!)
 
I saw an article that says this is the first time he's broken a clavicle!  That's a pretty amazing record!

regarding the first time breaking clavicle, that is amazing,

it's a good trivia question, has any other pro cyclist with at least 1 grand tour win has raced and trained more miles without breaking a clavicle?

when i first read about it, i did think to myself that 1 quality of all great athletes is good fortune with injuries (and of course, making your own luck is also a good habit to have)

not being able to see him and contador in top form together is going to be a shame
