Have you ever heard that Slovak is the Slavic Esperanto? Or that it is one of the most difficult languages to learn? Dr. Kamenárová will discuss several stereotypical beliefs like these, and will
focus on how 30 years of an independent Slovakia is reflected in the language and culture.
 Renáta
Kamenárová is the Director of the Slovak Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh, the only university program in North America where students can take Slovak language and culture classes and opt to receive a Minor in Slovak Studies. She is
a specialist in foreign language instruction, with over 20 years of experience in university education. She is the lead author of
Krížom-krážom, a popular four-book series of Slovak language textbooks for foreigners. She also co-authored the distance learning course www.e-slovak.sk. Renata has taught Slovak language and culture at Comenius University in Slovakia and at the University
of Bologna, in Italy.
