I had seen this problem in Sandbox and assumed it was just a Sandbox bug as I think I remember reading something about that being a known bug. You can see the issue at the following example Sandbox receipt_url:

I made that emailing process asynchronous with a queue and another lambda dedicated to sending email confirmations. I put a small wait on the queue processing the messages and now the receipt comes through nicely each time.
We figured it out. It was a simple fix, which we had to figure out on our own. In the Square POS app, under More/Settings/Hardware/Square Terminal, after the Square Terminal is paired to the iPad, there's an option to turn on or off "print receipts." We've never noticed that before and aren't sure it was there. It appears to default to "off" - I had a connection problem today so I unpaired and re-paired, and had to switch it on again. There must have been a software change late last week - I got an email on Aug 8 saying we can now print receipts for cash transactions from a paired Square Terminal. I had asked for that a couple of months ago, so I'm pleased that it's now an option. I just wish I had known about the setting required to print any receipts at all. Anyway, it's working! Hope this helps someone else.
I spent some time with a Customer Service rep on the phone, and sent copies of what my screens look like, but was not able to resolve anything. The Square Terminal works fine and prints if I sign it into my Square account. BUT if I pair it to the iPad running Square Point of Sale, it is behaving very differently since last Friday. It does not give me the option to print a receipt. The iPad does, but it doesn't work. (Maybe it thinks I'm connected to a real printer, which the Square Terminal is not.) I was able to print receipts on credit card sales for two months until last Friday. Something changed. I can't be the only person with this problem. I hope someone figures it out. it's the reason I got the Square Terminal.
my square terminal simply does not recognize the printer. If I go to settings and select printer, screen just blips thru. No option to "use this printer". my transactions only give me the email and text options, no print option. I've contacted square support, did several factory resets as they suggested, still does not work. Of course with covid it's out of warranty now, even tho i only used it for a few shows. They're saying I need to buy a new one. Uh...no.
Anybody else have this issue?
I would like the receipts Square sends to be in the form of a .pdf and to fit on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. Yes I know I can save it as a .pdf but it's very cumbersome. I dont want the email specs on the top of the page and then have to adjust the scale percentage to make it fit on one page thus making it to small to read once printed. I wish we could customize our own reciepts!
Have you found a way to do this?! My business requires 8.5x11 PDF receipts for clients. I'd hate to have to give up the use of Square because I can't easily send a receipt in PDF format. This is a major oversight!
This is a MAJOR hole in Square's feature set. Every business that I know requires it's employees to submit copies of their receipts in order to be reimbursed for travel expenses. PDF is the industry-accepted way to do this.
My God, this is caveman style... really... common, guys... I'm having the exact same problem - my patients are asking me .pdf format receipts and I have to look up the exact receipt, send it to my email, make a snip and re-send it back to them... because you currently don't have a feature. What a pain.
I had a client contact me today and say that they were unable to see the items listed on the receipt that was emailed to them. With some email websites/programs, they do not correctly display the receipt as it should look, and even when you click the link to open it on the web, when you go to print the receipt, it does not show how it should look. Seems to me like with all the features Square has implemented that it wouldn't be that difficult for you all to allow us to enable a setting on our accounts that would set emailed receipts to automatically include an attached PDF! Any updates on if/when this might be added?
Purchased a service via a company's in-person Square reader. Received an email receipt. Does Square store these receipts on their website too? I saved it as a PDF from email but am curious if I could save a better formatted version from their website.
this is crazy. i cant believe square hasnt made their receipts in PDF format. as a customer and business owner i need to quickly upload my recipts to XERO without the added work of converting it from the email to a PDF
Customer information entered into the receipt field is for receipt purposes only and is not available in your Online Square Dashboard. Add your customer to your Directory from the Square app to access it from the app or online Square Dashboard at a later time.
I have some issues printing receipts with the new square version (4.79). They are not automatically printed even if the option is selected. I have to manually print the it by clicking on the printing button. Also, when the wifi is off, impossible to print receipts at all (even if I click on the button).
I'm new to Square. Just got the device. I swiped my own card to test it by sending $1. Once I signed, the app said "all done." I thought there is supposed to be a screen that automatically pops up asking if the customer wants to put in an email or text to get their receipt. Is there a setting I need to toggle? I can't find it.
I have the SKIP RECEIPT SCREEN turned OFF, but sometimes the receipt screen doesn't pop up. It's very annoying and innconvenient to have to go into activity and do a NEW RECEIPT when it doesn't pop up. Is this just another issue with Square POS?
SOSN If your customer has provided an email address to receive a receipt from any Square seller in the past, they will not need to enter their contact information and will receive an automatic receipt. The information that a customer enters for their receipt is linked to the payment card.
When I go to account and settings, all I see is account and no settings. I am using this on my iPad. Where are the settings located? I do not see Signature and Receipt. When I have a sale and process it on my iPad, the receipt screen will either: 1. Not come up at all. 2. Come up with No Thanks in black and the email and text grayed out or 3. Have the text and "no thanks" in black and email grayed out.
I am having the same issue - every few transaction the receipt screen doesn't come up. I have the skip screen set to off and the customer doesn't actually touch the screen so don't do email or texted receipts.
If you have the Blue Dot in the Skip Receipt Screen it will skip it if the customer has a Square profile to automatically get receipts by text or email from another store. The above are my settings and my receipt screen pops most of the time, if it does not it notifies me a Receipt was sent to the customer via email and shows me their partial email address so I can confirm it with them. If they still want a Printed receipt I can look in my transactions for their transaction tap New receipt and choose Print. This has happened a few times when people used a work email and changed jobs for instance and never updated their Square profile as a customer.
When you use a payment card for the first time with a Square Seller, you are asked on the point of sale device to enter your email address or phone number to receive digital receipts for future purchases made with this card via email or text message.
At this point, the email address or phone number is attached to that payment card. If you provided your email address, you will automatically be sent receipts to this address when you make subsequent purchases with that card at Square Sellers without having to enter in your email address each time. However, if you provided your phone number, you will still need to manually choose to receive a receipt via text after each payment with a Square Seller.
If you provide a phone number to receive an SMS receipt from a Square Seller, this information will be pre-populated (but redacted, e.g., ** ** 1234) on the receipt screen for you to confirm during future purchases from Square Sellers. You can edit the pre-populated phone number at the point of sale by tapping the field and entering new information.
Note: If your email address or phone number for receipt delivery was entered with a mistake, let us know and we can unlink this information from your payment card so you can enter the correct contact information to receive your receipts next time you visit a Square seller.
So I received an email from Squareup.com, from someone who told me they were going to pay me through paypal, it looks like a legit receipt, but nothing is showing in my paypal, it says, Custom Amount $, then Total, then below that, check($50 voucher required for verification to complete payment via paypal) they told me its just to verify my paypal and I will never have to do that again, but due to scams I'm unsure, has anybody seen this before?
