Another Spray – s/y Pinta of Stenhamra, Sweden

We started to build our boat in 1985 and in 2000 we could launch her,
in 2003 we could start sailing her.

It's a Bruce Roberts Spray 40 strechted to 42 feet, built in steel
with a schooner rig. I and my wife have done all the work ourselves, I
have done all the welding, cutting timbers for the interior,
carpenting and Ulla, my wife, has made all the sails and a lot of
other things on board.

The first engine, an old Ford diesel gave up after just a year. We
replaced with a new engine that works just fine. We have equipped the
boat with windrudder and autopilot tomake it easier with a short
handed crew. There is also plotter, vhf and shortwave radio.
The most valuable equipment for the moment is a diesel heater as the
temperature has been 10 degrees below zero centigrade.

To begin with we sailed in the Stockholm archipelago but extended our
cruises to Finland and Estonia, the Göta canal across Sweden and to
Denmark. Last summer we retired and started our extended cruise and
are now in Rotterdam, Holland for the winter, at easter we will
continue south to the the Med.
