Hi Kip

I wonder about the life-span of a boat that is thrown together in a
week and a half in non-durable wood. The old saying "you gets what
you pays for" might well apply here.

I think that you might be better looking at some of the many boats
going cheap in Langkawai. There is a lovely steel Spray 40 there
called Peggoty which is only about $80,000 Australian - cheaper than
it would cost to build even a cheap Spray to completion with engine
etc - and it is gaff rigged. Take your family on board and sail away -
NOW.

The Spray design has some problems that make it difficult to do a
quick job in timber. One is the number of frames - and second, the
curve at the bow is strong and would require steaming of the planking
timbers to prevent them splitting.
