Hi All,
As far as I have found, the Initiative Grant - Planning Phase for $50k-$150K (
youth.stewardshipcouncil.org/grants/funds/2010-initiative-fund) seems like it would be very appropriate for our group. We need to sign up on their website before submitting a LOI, and I need the tax ID number for CCAN to do so. Kim or Louise, would you be the contact for this grant?
The money is on a one year cycle, and we would be required to develope monitoring and evaluation plans, track the process of Stewardship Council-funded projects, submit data and indicators, write up evaluation findings, and desseminate reports widely.
I am concerned that we needed to have talked with someone/been involved in a webinar conference by now, but this grant comes up twice a year, so we can register and apply in the winter if the summer cycle doesn't work out.
I would like board permission to follow up on this grant. There is lots of money, and they have granted to schools as well as large NPOs.
Thanks all, look forward to talking with you soon!
Lindsey

Hi all,
Last week we agreed to parcel out the grants we know about and do a little analysis so that we can come up with a grant plan and calendar. Here are the assignments to which I have added a couple of grants or granting organizations that have come across my desk over the years:
Steven: California Dept of Food and Agriculture Specialty Crop Block Grant
(www.cdfa.ca.gov/Specialty_Crop_Competitiveness_Grants/) USDA Healthy Food Financing Initiative, NIFA Community Food Projects Grant (If you have time, could you survey the NIFA grant page, generally and then we can parcel out a closer read of suitable grants amongst us? www.csrees.usda.gov/fo/funding.cfm#) Louise: Wallace Winrock Large Enterprise Grant, USDA Rural Development Value Added Producer grant and Rural Community Development Initiative (www.rurdev.usda.gov/CA/NOFA.htm), Lindsey: Youth Stewardship grant (
youth.stewardshipcouncil.org/grants/funds/2010-initiative-fund), Hearst Foundation (
hearstfdn.org), requirements for Americorps or Food Corps interns
Lauren: Board of Supervisor's CBG, CalWellness Grants (
calwellness.org/how_to_apply/)
Sami: SLO County Community Foundation, New Frontiers Market 5% program
Eric: CA SARE grants (www.sare.org/grants/index.htm), National Sustainable Ag Coalition (If you have time to survey generally, we can parcel out a closer read among the group -- sustainableagriculture.net/category/grants-and-programs/)Hunter: Beginning Farmer and Rancher Program (http://cris.nifa.usda.gov) and
Farm Aid grants (
www.farmaid.org/grants)
For each grant opportunity we need the following information:
Grant name
Issuing organization (grantor)
website link
Grant purpose/goal and type of work funded
Amount
Matching funds required?
Underserved population requirement?
Cycle: letter of intent or straight to application? Date due, Date of award
Length of grant
Applies to what part of CCAN's programs?
Your recommendation about whether CCAN should apply in the future
I will go through my grant folder and bookmarks and gather other names to work on in the next round. If I could have your input by May 24th I will compile it by the Committee meeting May 27th, which should be a Grants meeting.
Thanks, everyone!
Kim
