I've done an update of the underlying data for the multiradical lookup for kanji.sljfaq.org at

This reflects recent changes in the radk data file.

Two complaints from users. The first complaint was that kanji.sljfaq.org links to the Australian mirror site. This is by request of edrdg.org's owners to reduce the volume of traffic to that site.

The second complaint is about the cookie popups which appear on sljfaq.org. These cookie messages are caused by the advertising and are a legal requirement in some jurisdictions. The cookie notification laws are a result of a bureaucracy gone insane called the European Union, followed by copycat legislation in other jurisdictions such as California. If people dislike the endless nagging cookie messages, please consider whether to vote to continue to belong to the underlying utterly deranged bureaucratic political system which caused these ridiculous messages to become necessary. Thank you.

hello ben,

first of all, thanks for your work on this excellent tool; as you surely know, it saves so much time when trying to identify unknown kanzi.

i want to make a comment about the link to the australian mirror: recently, in the past few days, the site http://nlp.cis.unimelb.edu.au/ to which the tool links gives this top-line warning: "This server is not currently being updated. We suggest you use an alternative site.>"

while i have not noticed many issues with the site, i have noticed that sometimes the stroke-order diagram gifs are not accessible from this mirror site...they just open a broken image link. it's not too big of a nuisance to copy and paste the kanzi into one of the main mirrors, but i wonder if some compromise could be made whereby your tool could link to a site that does have reliably active stroke-order images.

sometimes those stroke-order diagrams are very helpful with effectively using the "look ahead" feature on your tool, after all !

thanks again and cheers,

Thank you for the feedback. Another user was also dissatisfied with the current default. This was done by request from edrdg owners a few years ago due to excessive traffic. It appears that Jim Breen is OK with changing it back to being edrdg.org for the default, so I'll go ahead and restore that back to the default server. This should happen later today.

I have no problems with Ben's tools linking to either the edrdg.org
site (https://www.edrdg.org/cgi-bin/wwwjdic/wwwjdic?1C) or the Monash
University mirror (http://nihongo.monash.edu/cgi-bin/wwwjdic?1C). Some
people may prefer the former as it has SSL installed.

The other Australian mirror at the University of Melbourne is having
some performance issues and is best avoided at the moment.

This is now complete and the links should go to edrdg.org.

I will address various other issues later.

The other issues were that (1) the Australia link goes to Melbourne rather than Monash University (2) The "options" page still lists Australia as the default (3) the redirection still sends people to Melbourne. All of these should be corrected now. You may need to refresh the browser window to clear a cached version of the old pages. From now, Melbourne will not be linked to.
