Short version: there was a small amount of downtime for several FAQ conversion services, but things are now better than before and I've relaxed the overuse criteria.
Long version for those interested in the details:
I've been doing some work on the conversion programs at
www.sljfaq.org/cgi/. I made a program to check that the remote program libraries are the same as the ones on my local system. Then I noticed that I needed to do an upgrade of the remote system so I did that. Normally it would go smoothly but something went wrong, so some users would have seen some errors.
It was a bit mysterious, but I found that an old library file was out of synch using the new program to check remote versus local, which was a lucky coincidence. Then that old library was pulling in another old library which I thought I wasn't using any more, but the old version was still using it so the old library was being pulled in each time.
Having solved that problem, I found another bug in the software which was causing a lot of error messages to be printed unnecessarily. Obviously this didn't affect end users but anyway things are looking smoother now.
I've been spending a lot of time where I can't disable the overuse switch easily, so I've relaxed the criteria for that, which means heavy users should get a lot less of the gibberish text.
