X-axis on a co-ordinate grid - ascending left to right (like in English) or right to left (as when reading Japanese)

Hi... just a thought (an odd one I know, but that's the way my mind works I'm afraid)... do the Japanese have the X-axis ascending from left to right like we do... i.e. negative figures to the left of the y-axis, and positive figures to the right? Or vice versa, in keeping with the way they read (Yokogaki)

any takers?
