It is a sequel to the 2003 film Wrong Turn and the second installment in the Wrong Turn film series. The film follows a group of reality show contestants who find themselves in a remote forest where they are hunted by a family of cannibalistic mutants.
The film was released on DVD on October 9, 2007. It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the gore effects, the acting, and the humor, but criticized the plot, the characters, and the direction. The film was a commercial success, grossing over $9 million from DVD sales. It spawned four more sequels and a reboot.
The film begins with Kimberly Caldwell, a celebrity singer, driving through the West Virginia woods. She stops at a gas station to ask for directions, where she meets Three Finger, one of the cannibal mutants. He kills her by smashing her head with an axe and then takes her body to his cabin.
Meanwhile, a group of six contestants are chosen for a survival reality show called "The Ultimate Survivalist: The Apocalypse", hosted by retired military commander Colonel Dale Murphy. The contestants are Nina, a timid and kind-hearted student; Jake, a compassionate and intelligent athlete; Amber, a tough and rebellious biker; Jonesy, a wisecracking and sarcastic skateboarder; Elena, a promiscuous and vain model; and Michael, a quiet and nerdy comic book fan. They are taken to an isolated forest where they have to survive for six days while facing various challenges.
On their first night, they are attacked by Three Finger and his two brothers, Saw Tooth and One Eye. They kill Michael and Elena and injure Amber. The next day, Murphy tries to contact the production crew, but finds out that they have been slaughtered by the mutants. He decides to end the show and get everyone out of there. He meets Nina and Jake, who have escaped from the mutants' cabin after witnessing their gruesome cannibalism. They tell him that Amber and Jonesy are still alive and need help.
Murphy sets off to rescue them, while Nina and Jake stay at his base camp. Along the way, he encounters Mara, a local girl who is pregnant with Three Finger's child. She tells him that the mutants are her family and that they have been living in the woods for generations after being exposed to chemical weapons during the Cold War. She also reveals that there is another group of mutants called the Foundation, who are more civilized and organized than her family. She warns him not to go near them.
Murphy finds Amber and Jonesy at an abandoned hospital, where they are tortured by the mutants. He manages to free them, but is killed by Three Finger. Amber and Jonesy escape in Murphy's truck, but are chased by the mutants. They crash into a barbed wire fence and are captured by the Foundation.
Nina and Jake hear gunshots from the hospital and decide to investigate. They find Mara's body hanging from a tree with her baby cut out of her womb. They are then surrounded by the Foundation members, who are led by Pa, the patriarch of the mutant clan. He tells them that they are trespassing on his land and that they will be punished for their sins.
The Foundation takes Nina and Jake to their town, where they have built a society based on old-fashioned values and religious fanaticism. They also have a breeding program to create more mutants. Pa introduces them to his children: Brother, Sister, Ma, and Daughter. He also shows them Amber and Jonesy, who have been mutilated and brainwashed into joining the Foundation.
Pa announces that Nina and Jake will be married and forced to produce offspring for the Foundation. He also reveals that he has Kimberly's head as a trophy. Nina and Jake try to resist, but are overpowered by the Foundation members. However, before Pa can perform the wedding ceremony, Three Finger and his brothers attack the town with their truck full of explosives.
A massive fire breaks out in the town, killing most of the Foundation members. Nina and Jake use the opportunity to escape, while Amber and Jonesy regain their sanity and help them fight off the mutants. They manage to kill Brother, Sister, Ma, and Daughter, but are confronted by Pa and Three Finger. Nina shoots Pa in the head, while Jake stabs Three Finger in the chest. They then run to a nearby watchtower, where they find a radio and call for help.
As they wait for rescue, they see a helicopter flying towards them. They wave at it, hoping that it is their salvation. However, they soon realize that it is actually the mutants' helicopter, which they have stolen from the production crew. The film ends with Three Finger, who has survived his wound, laughing maniacally as he flies the helicopter towards Nina and Jake.
