Bullet-hell shooters is a genre of 2D shooters based on really complex patterns, which are beautiful and interesting to look at, and impiles great difficulty, memorizing patterns and fast player reaction.
Touhou Project games are one of the most popular of this genre because, among other things, the in-game world is a giant universe, the music (at least the WAVs in the full version) is spectacular, and, if you have been on the internet for a while, you might stumble upon its curious fanbase, which has produced videos, music, manga (japanese comics) and even unofficial games.
The following packages only depend on Wine to run (and Timidity++ to play MIDI music). A python engine is under development to remove the wine dependency. They install the free trial versions. You can easily replace the trials with the full game if you have it.
Linkmauve has made an experimental python engine to make the games more portable. It is definitely not stable, and is more of an outline for an engine than an actual one, but it is interesting nonetheless. See packages pytouhou-hgAUR and th06-demo-dataAUR.
If you have the full version of either Imperishable Night or Perfect Cherry Blossom, you can place them in your home folder, or you can place them in the overlay so that they will work in the liveCD and also get installed to disk.
If you find that you have no audio in any of the Windows era or later games (Touhou 6 and later), make sure to install lib32-alsa-lib and lib32-alsa-plugins, and recheck your configuration in winecfg. In addition, set the audio in-game to "WAV" mode.
The Touhou Community Reliant Automatic Patcher (thcrap) is mainly developed to facilitate self-updating, multilingual translation of the Touhou Project games on Touhou Patch Center, but can theoretically be used for just about any other patch for these games, without going through that site.
Rank
*A hidden value between 0 and 32, higher rank values increase bullet speed and the amount of bullets, having the most prominent effects in boss attacks.
*Rank goes up as time surviving goes on and goes up dramatically with spell card caps.
*Rank goes down by 16 when you are hit, not killed but hit, meaning a deathbomb WILL decrease rank. Some spellcards decrease rank when bombed IE Water Elf.
How do I run this game? I am trying to play this on Windows 10 and I have unzipped the zip file. From the unzipped file, I do not know where to go to run the game. Where should I go and what steps should I take to install/run the application? Also, do I need the game installer.zip file for this to work, or do I just need the second file?
I was having the same problem and I don't know if it will fix it for you but I just deleted the files for the game completely and reinstalled them. While I still get the error every time I open the game the game now runs again like it did before. Not sure if it will definitely fix it for you but since nobody else had said anything I thought it might help.
Alright this is really old but.... If you have a locale emulator and set it to Japanese, or if you're locale on your computer is already JP, use that version. The version you should execute is callled "TH06" or something similar. It should be much smaller application size wise, but should have the same thumbail/icon.
Not run that file, or use a Japanese Locale, or use a Locale Emulator. That text is unreadable to the English Locale. There should be another exe file that you should run though that will work. It will most likely be called "TH06" or "Touhou06".
One question: if I want to install more patches to the game, do I have to install the unpatched version? Bc I've been trying to do it with thcrap and the already patched game but it doesn't seem to work. If you know what might help please let me know!
I need some help, When i try to load up the game it starts normally but when I try to enter the game/music or anything the game freezes, and it sends me back to my desktop.
It gives me a screen that says the patcher is outdated and I can not seem to figure it out.
Touhou 7 seems to work fine, so it has to be something with Touhou 6
The game was working fine for me yesterday. I decided to delete the game because I thought I wouldn't want to play anymore, but I decided that I wanted to play the game again. Now when I click on the exe file, it shows the black screen, then it disappears and the game doesn't run. What do I do to fix this?
hey! i downloaded the game it was working fine in the first place but when i wanted to slow down with the shift button the game crashed is there any way to fix that? i cannot access the th6 file because it sends me a error message that the patched file is gone nor the touhou 6 file. can anyone send me some tips?
Reminder that this game is really old
it has many problems with installing on new machines
Touhou don't have much of that "sequel" concept, every game basically it's own story so no worries playing it out of order.
i do recommend playing the newer games like 12+ if you want to get started right away. since it's windows 10 friendly
A complete patch setup is made up of a number of individual parts, any one of which will be responsible for the issue you're experiencing. If possible, please try to pin down the cause before reporting an issue to us.
If you're on Linux or MacOS with Wine, there seems to be a bug when when the game is in a subfolder of the selected folder (which happens when you add your folder with all your games in it). If this happens, you'll need to use the "Find games in a specific folder..." button to add each game one by one.
This is a bug in Wine, and has not been fixed as of October 2017. Even if Japanese fonts are installed and work as intended on an unpatched game, Wine's font substitution is not sophisticated enough yet to use glyphs from these fonts in case the currently selected font (Touhou Biolinum for Latin script languages) does not contain Japanese glyphs.
Unfortunately, ZUN's engine has never been able to do automatic line breaks, and we don't want to combat this by having the wiki parser guess where to put a line break. This means that all of the line breaks have to be done manually.
If you see such a line, just log in, look for the corresponding page and split it yourself. If it's a third-party patch, then e-mail the project leader about the issue, or tell them on GitHub or wherever they host their patch.
The error to the right is shown whenever a Touhou game is started and there is another Touhou game process active, meaning that you cannot run two Touhou games at the same time. Check Task Manager for any zombie processes and kill them if necessary.
When you are using multiple patches, the order is important. For example one may want to use Gamer251's Mima patch for the Mima sprite and dialog, the Alphes patch for Alphes-style art, and our English patch to have the rest of the game translated to English. If one was to use the Mima patch first, then the Alphes patch, then the English one, they would discover that while the other patches were applied, the English title screen was applied to the Mima's custom title. So for a typical patch selection, the correct way to select a patch if it's not already not added for you (as seen with Nazeo's gangster patch) is using the main language first, then the mod.
Also, if you previously applied the workaround where you copied some DLL files around, delete them. This workaround is no longer needed, and having old DLL files in the thcrap directory can cause a crash. You should not have any DLL file in the thcrap root folder.
Moreover, if using a customized (non-distro) kernel, it's possible that your maintainer or you may not have compiled it with the CONFIG_CROSS_MEMORY_ATTACH option enabled. This option is (at least for Proton and derivatives) necessary for thcrap to access the game executables' memory for patching.
I've been looking for a clean install of EoSD for days, but everything is English- patched. I haven't been able to find a single clean install of it. I also can't read enough Japanese to ask online. What files make up a clean EoSD install?
It has a folder with html and images of the manual but other than a trial information text file and the missing BGM folder, it seems like it just has the Japanese names of the config, DAT and main exe filew.
Please whatever you do, do not follow the steps listed in here for Gensou Ningyou Enbu/Touhou Puppet Dance Performance! I primarily say this because we replaced the beat patch with a more functional installer, which you can get on the thread linked below. The beat patch had a nasty tendency to either not work, break games, or in EXTREME case, delete the entire game folder. Not to mention, the beat patch is EXTREMELY outdated. We have updated at least thrice since then!
If I have to write a proper guide for how to set up and install both the game, and the patches, then I will, but so long as you obtain the game and install the patches in order, then install the latest English patch, everything should work fine!
SWRSToys is a library which sets hooks on DirectX calls used by the game and provides a set of pluggable modules implementing various features. There are also other modules on this page that use SWRSToys as a base. The download for the game provided by the #hisouten discord includes this by default.
To disable an SWRSToys based mod, open SWRSToys.ini in the Soku directory add a semicolon (;) to the line calling that mod.To enable an SWRSToys based mod, remove the semicolon (;) to the line calling that mod in SWRSToys.ini.To add a new SWRSToys based mod, add the folder containing the .ini and .dll for the mod into the Modules directory within the Soku directory.
