Theprevious update claimed the project had reached an "important" milestone and now according to this latest report, the remake of the game has been completely "remade from scratch" but is still in the early stage of development.

"Footage sent to Insider Gaming under the condition that it does not go public shows the game is somewhat still in an early stage (missing textures, assets, etc.) and is, unfortunately, likely a ways off from release."

This rework supposedly includes a "complete graphical overhaul, new animations, mechanics for combat and parkour" and more. The title has also supposedly been "rewritten" and "recaptured in mocap". In addition to this, the same "exclusive" suggests the original voice of the Prince (Yuri Lowenthal) will "no longer be reprising his role".

Last week, Henderson also shared an exclusive about a new roguelike Prince of Persia game made by the Dead Cells' co-developer Evil Empire. You can read up on this in our previous story here on Nintendo Life:

Liam is a news writer and reviewer for Nintendo Life and Pure Xbox. He's been writing about games for more than 15 years and is a lifelong fan of Mario and Master Chief. He's also got a soft spot for Sonic the Hedgehog.

If nothing else, I do appreciate that we skipped the part where a company tries to convince people to buy a game they own again because you'll never get a new game in a series again unless you buy the game you already own and they just made a new, good game in a series.

Is this the moment where we witness PoP being milked for all it's worth and finally ending up somewhere in a ditch, like so many IPs before it? I'm not enthusiastic about Ubisoft's approach at all. In fact, all their games have been a hard pass for about five years now and I can't say I feel I'm missing out.

@mlt Yeah, I've read the reviews, but at this point I've decided to not sponsor Ubisoft any more. They disappointed me too many times before and I've basically just lost interest in everything they put out.

@mlt But they still remade a random much more mediocre game that you had to buy or else they wouldn't make a remake to "figure out how to make a Super Monkey Ball game" (because I guess making good games is impossible without remaking other games) in order to make a new game.

I haven't played the original game, and this just tells me I won't have any interest in this remake.

Just curious if the remake ends up costing more than the original. At least that would be funny.

Happy to know it should still coming at some point (fingers crossed also to Switch 2) - have never played Sands of Time and I would love to do so - and if the remake will be better thanks to this rework it's only a good thing!

I am curious considering that they had a complete game as a template to work with. I get the Jade/Anvil engine has grown and remakes like resident evil set the bar but how much are they changing? I replayed sands of time in the past 5 years and it still felt good to play.

I need to get back to the lost crown but as for the sands of time remake I'll probably pass. No Yuri. No way. Besides the remake would have to be pretty damn amazing before I'd care. The original is good enough as it is.

I bought Prince of Persia on Gamecube when it released and to this day I consider it one of the most overrated games I've ever played. It received INCREDIBLE review scores at the time, but I found it quite simplistic, unchallenging, and unremarkable.

The fact that Yuri Lowenthal is out is unacceptable. He gave such an iconic performance as the prince and is an important part of the overall recipe that made that game great. Plus, he is still active as a VA. They really should use him.

Siigh, just remaster it already, just add widescreen, 4K and 60 fps. We don't need the remake, it's not like ubisoft is good at melee combat gameplay either, it's not like we'll get elden ring melee with this new remake.

@Troopage the art style used wasn't the issue. The issue is that the game looked like poorly made port of the game to a new game engine like the GTA Trilogy. It used the same models, textures, and animations as the original release.
