Hi,

I'm new to SLiM, and this is my first post here. I'm happy to be part of the community.

I have recently installed SLiM 5 on Mint Linux and am trying out some of the recipes. When running recipe 6.3 (or, indeed, any other) and then trying to view the mutation frequency trajectories (as described in section 7.2 of the SLiM Manual), I only get an empty plot with x-axis ranging from 0 to 1 (changing that does not help). Exporting the data from the context menu yields the following:

# Graph data: Mutation Frequency Trajectories
# 8/26/25, 5:15:11 PM

# Lost mutations:

# Fixed mutations:

# Active mutations:
NA, NA, NA, NA, ..., 0.4105
NA, NA, NA, NA, ..., 0.0075
NA, NA, NA, NA, ..., 0.634

This seems to be a bug. Is there a work-around?

Best wishes,

Hi Michael!  The plot (probably) works correctly, but it has a quirk that needs to be better handled in the user interface somehow.  The quirk is that the plot window needs to already be open at the start of the model run.  It will then collect and display data as the model executes.  If you open the plot window later, such as at the end of a run, it will display nothing.  This is because the amount of data collected for this plot can be very large, and so (unlike the other plots on SLiMgui) it is not collected by default – that would have too much of an impact on both memory usage and runtime.  Instead, the data is collected only when the plot window is open.  Not ideal, and could use UI improvement to make it more clear; sorry!

Of course please post again if you think this is not the problem!  :->

Cheers,
-B.
