Browseour collections to find both hardcover notebooks and softcover notebooks available in different sizes and colors and with a choice of page layouts. Hardcover notebooks are perfect for taking notes on the move as the rigid cover provides a reliable writing surface away from your desk. The sturdy and professional feel of a hard cover notebook can also add a sense of gravitas to your notetaking. What's more, it protects your ideas as it is more resistant to wear and tear, especially if you are constantly moving between appointments.

That said, by design a softcover notebook is more lightweight and flexible to carry around. If you want a notebook small enough to store in your pocket, then the flexibility of a soft cover makes it the more comfortable option. Ultimately though, whether you choose hard cover or soft cover is a question of personal preference.

Ruled notebooks are the best option if you need to write words, take notes, and make lists. Lines guide linear thinking and bring a sense of order as you work through your thoughts by hand on the page.

Squared paper or gridlines are wonderful for both writing and working with numbers. Gridded paper brings with it a reassuring sense of order and neatness, and perhaps a hint of nostalgia for beloved school stationery.

Dotted notebooks give you the best of all worlds: the structure of ruled lines along with the freedom of plain paper. The loose structure of dots is enough to write in straight lines, but also perfect for drawing and sketching.

Before you start asking if the headaches are giving me brain damage, I have to say I asked myself the same question when I picked up this Moleskine Extra Large Plain Soft Cover Notebooks. In general, I find Moleskine notebooks leave me wanting but there was something about the size of this book that appealed to me.

The soft cover makes it lay flat easily and the covers can be folded back to easily work on either the let or right side of the pages at a time. The book mark ribbon is still unfinished on the end so I added a little white glue to edge to keep it from fraying. The soft cover books do include the gusseted pocket in the back and the vertical elastic, like all the other Moleskine editions.

I added a Leuchtturm 1917 pen loop to the back cover and set to work using it. I think I was really looking for something to tide me over until the start of the year when I plan to start keeping a regular journal in my new Hobonichi Techo.

Because of the soft cover, this book is super low profile. It takes up almost no space in my bag meaning I am taking it with me everywhere and using it for some daily journaling and a catch-all commonplace book.

Moleskin is a heavy cotton fabric, woven and then shorn to create a short, soft pile on one side. The feel and appearance of its nap is suede-like,[1] less plush than velour and more like felt or chamois. The word is also used for clothing made from this fabric.[2] Clothing made from moleskin is noted for its softness and durability. Some variants of the cloth are so densely woven as to be windproof.[3]

Moleskin fabric is commonly used to make trousers, also referred to as "moleskins", that are similar to jeans in terms of cut and construction. They similarly started as working menswear,[5] but are now also much more widely worn.

Moleskin-like fabric with an adhesive backing is used to prevent or treat blisters, cut with a hole in the centre to provide relief to the affected skin.[2] The thickness of the surrounding moleskin further protects the blister from additional friction.[6][7][8][9]

Medical moleskin-like fabric with adhesive backing is also commonly used in video and/or audio productions when using a lavalier microphone. When further concealment of a lavalier microphone is needed in these types of productions, it can be worn underneath a layer or layers of the singer's clothing. This would normally cause the microphone to pick up the unwanted noises of the singer's clothing rubbing up against the body and top of the lavalier. Attaching a small strip of moleskin around the microphone body will dramatically reduce the amount of noise created by the singer's clothing and, consequently, reduces the amount of unwanted noise picked up by the lavalier microphone.[10][11][12]

West German army uniforms from the 1960s until the early 1990s were made of "moleskin" fabric in a greyish olive-drab colour, but the German moleskin was not shorn and thus had a flat, smooth outer side. Nonetheless, it was a tough, densely woven material, strongly resistant to wind and abrasion.
