Summary of background data: The flowable gel form of Grafton (Osteotech, Eatontown, NJ) demineralized bone matrix has been shown to have osteoinductive properties in various models and currently is used clinically as bone graft material in posterolateral lumbar spine arthrodesis. Two new formulations of Grafton, one made of flexible sheets (Flex) and the other made in a malleable consistency (Putty), have improved handling characteristics compared with the gel form.

Methods: In this study, 108 New Zealand white rabbits underwent bilateral posterolateral intertransverse spine arthrodesis at L5-L6 using autogenous iliac crest bone graft alone (control), one of the new forms of demineralized bone matrix (DBM; made from rabbit bone) alone or in combination with autogenous iliac crest bone. Rabbits were killed 6 weeks after surgery. The lumbar spines were excised, and fusion success or failure was determined by manual palpation and radiography. Specimens also were processed for undecalcified histologic analysis.

Conclusions: The new flexible sheet and malleable putty forms of demineralized bone matrix were effective as graft extender and graft enhancer in a model of posterolateral lumbar spine fusion. These newer formulations of Grafton appear to have a greater capacity to form bone than the gel form or autogenous bone graft alone in this model.

Just had my osburn matrix 2700 installed by a mason. The installation was not without issues, the chimney liner (from osburn) is attached at the backside of the unit, which is only held by 3 sheet metal screws at the front side so when the unit was slid back into the firebox the entire aft part of the liner flange lifted free of the unit leaving roughly a 3/4" gap which would have allowed smoke and possibly sparks from the fire to escape into the free space outside the insert, not good. I found this after the mason installed the unit so then an "adapter" had to be installed which was not without its own issues. Next, the manual states the blower motor switch is a three position switch, (1) auto (2) off (3) on. My unit has a two position switch, on and off and the blower will run continuously with the switch in the "on" position. Seems to me there is no thermostatic switch, which the instructions state there is, which would turn the blower on when a specified temp in the firebox is reached. Of course there is no wiring diagram to check the wiring so troubleshooting is limited. I can't give a complete or accurate review but so far I'm not impressed, but frustrated by the lack of useful information.

The Matrix 2700 is great. I purchased two of them for two fireplaces in my house. So far only the first has been installed, and it looks and works beautifully. I'm looking forward to having the second unit installed sometime in January when it's shipped from the factory.

This is a nice looking stove but has some issues. This is our second season using the stove and overall it is working good. My chief complaint is the fan. It is REALLY loud. Also, no matter how good your wood is that you burn, the glass get extremely dirty very quickly. Those issues aside, the stove puts out pretty good heat and has a decent burn time.

The Matrix 2700 is a very well built unit. Face play of the 2700 is cast iron that has that real feel of crafted materials. Newer technology of the fire bricks inside is very nice. Blower pushes a lot of air.

the wood insert is very attractive and very large as I am trying to heat a room that is about 1800 sq ft. I have an older home that was built in the late 50s but has modern windows and insulation .the unit doesnt draw as much air as my previous smaller unit and takes more effort to build a hot fire Im going to order an outside air intake assembly and see if it draws any more air.I am using a 6 inch chimney liner that is at least 12 feet tall from the top of the firebox to the top of the cap.I wish the door would have been able to be made with both right and left hand swing options as I would have ordered it with the hinges on the right instead of the left.It heats well but the glass gets dirty easily, I am hoping the outside air will fix that.

Recent purchase of a new Matrix 2700. I couldn't be more please with the finish, quality and performance of this stove. To date, we have done a few break in burns and the heat output is remarkable. Can't wait for Winter to arrive!
