I'm excited about the new tagging feature but other than selecting tags upon waking, I don't see anywhere to work with them in the app. How do I set up a custom tag? How do I use them to analyze sleep quality?

Thanks,

John

You can use a custom tag by entering #tag in the comment area.  e.g. enter #pizza to track how eating pizzas affects your sleep (I find them to be salty, and often wake in the night/early morning needing a drink of water, which shortens the hours of sleep I get.)  I don't think you can add an icon for it, but you will see the text pizza instead.

Then in the standard stats screen, above the list of the last 14 days sleep, you will see and icon (or text if no icon?) for each tag, and alongside it the average sleep time and %deep sleep for the days with that tag.  (This confused me for a while, I thought it was a bug, duplicating the day below it.  There should be a separator or something to indicate it's different from the days below it.)  You can then compare each tag with the average stats above them, to see if you get more or less sleep, and if it's deeper or not.

Hope this helps,
Peter.

Hello Peter,

thanks a lot for the great explanation. We are also planning to add tags to SleepStats shortly allowing you to do same more advanced analysis.
1. Filtering based on tags - similar what we do currently with Weekend/Weekdays so you can see development and trends based on a selected tag only
2. The same applies to advice where we do the regression on based on the selected tag which may be interesting
3. A barchart view comparing rating and deep sleep based on various tags

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Petr

Thank you both. I guess I'm not seeing the tags on the stats screen because I haven't used any tags yet. Is there a way to go back and manually tag past records?

Also, a couple more tag options to consider:

1. A crying baby.

2. Different medications or sleep aids for people who might use different things on different nights.

3. Option to show dosages of medications or alcohol. (I.e. how many drinks, how many ZMA capsules, etc.)

Hello John,

you can add tags any time just by long pressing the sleep graph and Edit record. Or from the detail screen the pencil icon.

Regarding further tags, I like the baby idea. Regarding different medications I would recommend your own set of tags in this case. We have a build in general tag for medication of all sort.

Dosages would be very interesting especially for some consequent data mining. But I guess we are not there yet.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Petr
