I was just wondering what the ideal percentage of deep sleep is and how best to interpret graphs.

I used the app for the first time last night and I can't easily understand if my sleep cycle was of good quality and although I have a percentage of deep sleep I can't tell if that percentage is a 'normal' or 'healthy' one.

For example, my deep sleep was 49% and my deficit was 0.06. Is 49% a 'good' amount of deep sleep to have per night? Are there percentages to aim between?

Also is there some sort of analytical tool that can simply sum up whether your sleep was 'good' or 'bad' without you having to read too much into it? I guess I can compare graphs over a period of time, but if my sleep quality is always bad then the data isn't going to be very helpful.

Thanks,

Hello,

please consult our website https://sites.google.com/site/sleepasandroid/graphs for info on how to interpret graphs and the deep sleep %.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Petr

What I dont understand is that other sources on the Internet mention quite different % as normal for deep sleep. E.g.
30% for deep sleep
This is a Dutch text that belongs to a TV serie about sleeping and mentions a range:
NREM3 (3-8%) and NREM4 (15-20%):
so for the total deep sleep (18%-28%)
Thats a rather great difference with the 30% - 70% mentioned by the documentation belonging to sleep as android here:

Hello,

we prefer to have a wider range to not scare anybody. Actigraphy where movement is tranferred through a mattress is vulnerable to errors of measurement - and those usually tent to provide more deep sleep %.

Thank you very much.

OK Peter, interpretation is difficult then ... on the other hand you can compare your own results of course. Age is also of influence I learned. Anyway, nice app! For the feature poll I had an idea: be able to enter your age in the app (and maybe some other personal information) so you can give more thorough analysis & advice.

Regards, Simon

This is definitely a very interesting idea. But for this we need to use results of sleep studies directed at these groups as we are not able to verify this in a trial. This is a whole new direction - to put more emphasize on advice in general. We would like to go this way but it will definitely. But it will require some time...

Thank you very much.
