The latest update showed Heart Rate Monitoring via Polar H7 is supported. So I updated, went into settings and ticked appropriate boxes. Put my H7 strap on, verified connection by opening Polar app (H7 connected). Slept as normal with tracking via my Pebble Time. I can't figure out where the H7 data went though. Everything looked the same as when sleeping without the H7 on. How do I confirm Sleep As Android was even using the H7 data?

Hello,

thank you very much for your message. Could you please send a debug report (menu button>report a bug) in order to help us investigate this issue? Did you pair the device in you device BT setting.

Thank you very much.

It doesn't give me the option to pair in Bluetooth settings. I just put it on my chest and then whatever app I open to read the sensor with "pairs" inside the app itself. I've researched online a little and can't seem to find any information on pairing within the Bluetooth settings of my phone. I will send a bug report right now. I'm still not sure if it's working or not working though. What specifically am I looking for within the Sleep As Android app that shows it's connected or working? I ran the Polar app in the background all night to confirm that the strap did remain connected all night and never disconnected. I just didn't see any difference with the graph indicating a heart strap was used. Or does it just use the data in the background and I shouldn't be seeing any indication of strap used?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Hello,

I only tested this on Lollipop so I'm not sure about earlier Android versions. But here is what I did:
- put the H7 on my chest
- open BT settings
- search for near by devices
- after a while Polar H7 shows up
- tapping it shows pairing and in a while device is paired

Please note that BT HR monitoring needs to be enabled in Settings > Smartwatch > BT Smart

Thank you very much.

I am having a similar issue and was wondering if you figured this out?

I am using a Samsung Note 3:
  • Model: SM-N900P
  • Android: 5.0
  • Build: LRX21V.N900PVPUEOH1
I have paired the Polar H7 heart rate sensor:
  • Swipe down
  • Settings Gear
  • Connections
  • Bluetooth
  • Available devices
  • Click/Touch "Polar H7 <ID>"
  • Wait for pairing to complete (a couple of seconds)
Confirmed the H7 is working:
  • Open Polar Beat (v1.2.7) and confirm connectivity
    • Heart w/ rate in the lower-right quadrant of the app
    • Confirm Visibility:
      • Settings Gear
      • General - HR Sensor
      • Visibility is ON
      • Battery FULL
Configured Sleep as Android (v20150909) to use the H7:
  • Settings Gear
  • Smartwatch
  • Bluetooth Smart (LE) switched to the right and green
I start a sleep tracking session either from the phone directly (Moon icon at the bottom of the Alarms tab) or from my Pebble Time (App v3.4.0 / Watch v3.4).
The first time (09/29) this worked as advertised:
  • The Heart showed up in the lower-right corner with a rate.
  • The next day I had a red trace with the Upper and Lower rate noted in a circle.
The second time (09/30) I ended up with a trace for about two hours and the Upper/Lower annotations.
Since then sometimes the heart shows up, but I haven't had another trace.

Any thoughts or ideas?

I have tested with this and it works too: https://github.com/marcolivierarsenault/PolarHeartRateApplication
I wonder if this is due to Sleep as Android not playing well with the Polar provided Beat app.

Many thanks for the feedback. I have tested with Polar H7 on Nexus 5 and it worked well. But we have more reports that this is not working correctly and now we are trying to find out why. One issue may be that if connected through another app SaA stops receiving HR updates. Another issue may be that the device needs to you to pair it before you use it with Sleep as Android. Could you please try this and send a debug report form starting the sleep tracking and leaving it for ~2 minutes?

Thank you very much.

I have exactly same issue. It is not related with pebble or config, since my pebble vibration works with sleep app on my tablet but not with my phone.

Dear Petra,

I pick up from this old post as I have a similar problem, but the app has evolved quite a bit since then.
I happen to have a Polar H7 and I use it for HRV measurements with another app on my Motorola MotoG 3rd Generation.
It works fine with that app, but Sleep does not seem to find my HR Strap.
I have enabled under Settings/Wearables both "Use wearables" and "Bluetooth Smart".
It keeps showing me "Waiting for connectivity" and then the only thing I can do is to track without using the Polar H7.

Can you direct me at a solution, or do you need more info to debut this issue?

Kind Regards
Nicola

The only thing that works for me is this:

For some reason Sleep as Android won't connect to H7 if another app is already "connected". It's a real pain, but start your sleep tracking first and it will connect, and then go to the app you use for the HRV values and it should connect fine, then return to Sleep as Android.  This works for me every time.  Sleep as Android doesn't work very well if the bluetooth ever gets disconnected (which happens a lot on Marshmallow for me)  The app I use for HRV will automatically re-connect and continue fine....Sleep as Android will NOT however, and I won't get any more values after the bluetooth hiccup.

Hope this helps as a work-around.

Thanks Josh,

I will try this tip out, however at the time I tried I was not running the HRV app (Elite HRV), so Sleep had exclusive access to the Polar H7.

Cheers

Dear Martin,

I have tried to start a sleep session with the Polar H7 enabled. It did not work, even though the Elite HRV app was able to connect to the Polar H7.
Then I saved the log file and inspected it. I got this interesting line

Permission missing: BODY_SENSORS READ_PHONE_STATE CAMERA READ_CALENDAR WRITE_CALENDAR WRITE_SETTINGS GET_ACCOUNTS

It seems that the app has no permission to access the body sensors.
I have gone into Settings/apps/App permissions and under there only the app Strava is authorised for body sensors, along with Google Play services.
Body sensors permission does not appear also under the view per app, when I go to check the permission of the app Sleep.
Is this a problem? If so, how to solve it?

I have sent in my crash report: Crash report - 20170222 (1480) 23 [Manual error]

I checked your log and found that SaA discovered 2 devices but not Polar H7.
The issue is most probably in your other app is already paired with H7 and that's
why SaA is not able to discover it.
