Hello Good People making our communities more sustainable! Simply Living Board is copied - FYI. Here are two items of interest!

1) The Essential Guide to Doing Transition: Getting Transition started in your street, community, or organization. is now available online as a PDF. It is chock full of good info based on the experience of the Transition Town network over the past 10 years.  It's organized around "7 essential ingredients" for successful initiatives, and ncludes links to short videos about people who are doing transition work. It's useful for beginners and for groups ready to take their work to another level.  Here is the link:

2) Mac Crawford and I continue to offer monthly classes on Transition themes.  We are doing one Monday April 3rd (see below) organized around a video - Passive House Revolution - produced by the Center for Community Solutions in Yellow Springs. It documents the latest standards developed in Germany for passive house construction and includes examples of how to retrofit an existing house.  They have solved the problem of creating a super insulated structure that requires no forced air furnace by an air exchange system that keeps fresh air moving throughout the home.

We will also be doing a class on Monday, May 1st, on Permaculture 101." The classes are held on the first Monday of the month at the Northwood High Bldg, 2231 N. High St, from 6:30 - 8 pm.  Light refreshments are provided, or you can bring a snack that you would like to share.

Simply Living has an awesome collection of DVDs that we plan to put on our website. If you would like to show any of these videos to your group or for an organization that would be interested, just let me know - chuck...@gmail.com.

Here is the blurb with pic for the Monday class. You can sign up on Eventbrite but it is not essential.  Just come, learn, and share your energy knowledge and experience!

What if we could create and retrofit buildings that will use 80 to 90 percent less energy for heating and cooling? What if we could do these things right now? This film follows leading-edge architects, builders and homeowners as they bring the Passive House method of building to the United States. If you are concerned about the future of the planet and our children, you need to know about this important trend which is revolutionizing the way we think about buildings and energy. Free. Class led by Chuck Lynd and Mac Crawford for Simply Living's Transition Hub. Free. Donations support Simply Living Sustainable U. Free tickets available on Eventbrite. Updates on Facebook and Meetup.
