Have you guys noticed that when you upload a picture, with people that you frequently tag, Facebook automatically detects their faces?

I recently added a family photo, and when I went to tag it - it had a big square over my face and said "Do you want to tag Marc Gayle" (Yes/No).

Then I went to my wife - "Do you want to tag Cheyenne" (Yes/No).

That's crazy.....have they not spoken about it?

You guys seen any articles about this?

This could have significant repercussions re: Prism and the NSA debate.

Isn't this similar iPhoto and Picasa or Google+ for that matter?

Haven't used iPhoto in decades, and haven't used Google+ or Picasa. Soo...you tell me?

This certainly has been available for awhile on other platforms.

The face recognition(in general: i.e yes that is a  human face in the bushes), yeh have seen it around for a while..but identifying persons individually, haven't come across it in practice out in the wild. Will keep an eye out.

There was a bit of an uproar when it was first introduced last year. In fact, early versions of it automatically tagged people and/or automatically identified them and asked the potential faces if they wanted to tag themselves.

There was quite a bit of negative feedback coming back out of that. I do agree that it is alarming to think about within the broader context of prism, Google Glass and a number of the other things are not available in the wild.
