cswiii writes "Following up his article a few weeks ago about the NY
Times' loss of prominence across the online medium (previously

If you access a news website 2 or more times a week, you are better off
a registered user. More and more websites will require registration.
I am registered for the Chicago Tribune.. but for the LATimes I
couldn't get the username I wanted so I didn't register for a while.
Then there was one story that I absolutely needed to read that was
available on in the latimes. Went to the registration page, and found
out that if you are registered for any tribune paper, you can use that
same info.
This is important and somebody needs to tell the real cities network
about this (I did). The content in real cities websites are good but
all of them require registration.
There are some 20 odd websites there and I will NOT register for every
goddamn one. A year back I sent them a mail telling them to have a
central registration server. They said they would look into it but even
now you need to register seperately. I did eventually register for one-
san jose mercury but that's about it.
The suggestion in the wired article about having a website that you can
go register at and you won't be asked registration again is a very good
idea. But are newspapers going to agree to it? Slim chance.
But in the meanwhile, if you don't like nytimes registration( you
should register for it, the sunday magazine section cover stories are
very good), don't cry about it on slashdot. Just get the link from
googlenews.
