I need a Live CD/DVD with a VNC/RDP/NX Server that runs automatically
on startup.
Doesn't SLAMPP come with any remote desktop server?
Having them would be useful, and having a boot option to load an
automatic VNC Server would be great.
I haven't tested it but having seen the packages it looks like a great
linux compilation / Live CD.
Good work!

Yes, you can find my functionality request a bit strange (because it
differs from normal LiveCDs which come with a VNC Client instead) but
it would be great to have that because I want remote access (graphical
desktop instead of SSH only) to "any" PC by pluging only 2 cables: the
power cable to the PSU and the UTP cable to the NIC (no monitor, no
keyboard, no mouse). The important part to me is not installing an OS
to HDD, all must be run "Live".
[This is the reverse of a Thin Client, in the sense that local user
input is not needed and the hardware is used remotely as a server
instead of it being a client.]
Scenario 1: repairing / reinstalling operating systems on somebody
else's PC brought to me.
Scenario 2: virtual machine testing using Hypervisor, some like VMware
come with "built-in" VNC, which I don't like very much. Instead I
prefer the Guest OS to run it's own remote administration server (like
in real life scenarios). And that also allows you to use other
technologies such as NX or RDP. Anyway, the big advantage of having
the Hypervisor hosting VNC access to Guests is that you can see the
terminal from the time it powers up, enter the BIOS remotely, etc,
which is very useful.
[I've also seen the Xen LiveCD with Xen 3.2 which has some Guest OSs
for testing, (I think) they all autostart with a VNC server].
I've been looking all over the net for a "LiveCD with automatic
startup VNC" for hours and I just could find only one:
http://limp-vkk-ver1.sourceforge.net/
(which I tested and does what I need, but has no bash! and doesn't
come with utilities! What's great about it is that with a boot command
line you can start it using DHCP and the VNC is auto-started).
Fedora Core 12 comes with VNC client and server, but I think it's not
possible to run it via a bootloader/kernel command line without
remastering the LiveCD. Same goes to any Knoppix which comes with a
VNC Server.
I think I will remaster myself some Knoppix just for that, once I have
more spare time to learning the remastering process. (I choose Knoppix
because of better hardware detection I think, but I'm not sure about
this).
See you around.
