I know this is an older version... I've been out of the game for a long while but booting this title up is just atrocious. No sense of speed and seems to be garage. I know rFactor is a popular game so what am I missing here!? As of this version (stock install, I guess) I think the game sucks... But again most people love it ... And most vids I view on youtube, it looks amazing!
Any tips? I did purchase this game and have the game disc if that matters. It says "version 1.255". It looks like the game is up to 1.9 now? Can I upgrade? Other than a suggestion, this disc gathers dust...
Look for good and quality mods in the net. There are some good looking mods - DRM Revival 2.0b, F1 Classic Reloaded, AE86 Club, Enduracers SP2, Legend Cars, HistoriX 1.95, Radical SR3 converted by SandroX, StockCarV8 converted by SandroX, HRC V8 Supercars 2012, Caterham from RaceX mod and some more.
Here's very difficult... There are few interesing and good looking tracks for this title. Most of them are converted from other games. Don't know what kind of tracks you like but my favourite tracks for rFactor are:
Wow what a great list of rFactor resources.I am going to order the disk from amazon as its half the price of the download.I've been enjoying GTR2 and after iRacing I was disappointed in GTR2 until I got the graphics configuration right and it looks and drives awesome. So I downloaded rFactor lite trial version and quickly installed an apex GTR mod and a Nurburgring 24hr and got a little driving in before the 60 minute rFactor trial ran out.It was a dramatic improvement in the graphics.I don't know if its the best mod out as i have only tried one but it was enough to show me rFactor is worth the effort and fun to work on especially since you already have it. -------------------------------------------------------I would be interested to know the best historic open wheel mod and tracks?
Jones, is one resource for mods (they have a nice sort feature that lets you filter for cars/tracks, type then sort by release date or community rating). There are others out there as well (i believe VirtualR has a variety as well). Race2Play is another great league resource (career tracking sort of like iRacing, but different), though some of the mods they run may not necessarily be the latest version.
The league I'm part of still focuses predominantly on rFactor. We do dabble in some of the other sims, but it's mostly for fun. The core of our league centers around the V8 Supercar mod by OSRM, and the SPAZCAR series (running the VHR mod) for the oval guys. We run other bi-weekly / monthly series as well (Enduracers, PCC2007, Mustang Challenge, Skoda TC, DRM, MX-5 Cup etc).
If you like vintage touring / GT cars, Historix 1.95 is where you want to go. You will need a copy of GT Legends for verification during install though. runs a weekly series Sunday nights with fields of 30+ cars in 2 classes.
I personally prefer NoGripRacing for downloading. Not only is this another sim racing forum but they store an enormous collection of rfactor, rfactor 2, race 07, gtr2, gtl and other sim mods just like rfactorcentral.
It's nicely organized by mod, patch, track, car, skin etc. and sortable by date and number of downloads so you can quickly see what has been popular thru the years. In order to get fast unlimited downloads I donated... $15 I believe and well worth it. Once you see how much content is available for the ole rfactor you will realize what a deal it really was.
But I do remember the first time I fired it up, my first thought was "oh gross". lol Had I of left it at that I would of missed out on a lot. But the guys convinced me to do the EnduRacers mod so I could participate in this seasons series and I really love it.
It's good to be involved in a forum or league so those who have been using it for years can help you get going quickly or at least less painfully. ha It can be aggravating to someone just getting started as it's easy to feel overwhelmed. There are a lot of tweaks and changes that can be made from the visual to the feel.
FFB_Maniac has a great list there for you and there are even more tweaks that can be made to the game. But like I said, leagues can be very helpful in bringing you up to speed both with the game and racing. Leagues are not merely for the aliens.
It's a new update to the old F1 Classic v2.3 mod and it's made by the DRM modding team. It's about classic Formula 1 from 1967 season and it's something like GrandPrixLegends conversion for rFactor. The new Reloaded version has new features like car physics, tire physics, sounds and graphic updates. It's much more FPS friendly than the older version no matter that the new one looks much better. This mod is FFB incredible and for my personal iRacing lover taste I can say that I don't know any other rFactor mod with such a great FFB effects. You just need the right tracks to feel the incredible FFB this mod offers. The best track to drive this mod is Watkins Glen SRW conversion. Darin and Shaun always used the official laser scaned tracks for rFactor (Oran Park LiARD and EasternCreekLaser) to test the mods, but Watkins Glen SRW offers much more effects and for me is the ultimate track to test the force feedback. I drive with stock Logitech G27 and I don't know if my setup is good for other wheels, but I'll post it here:
Gear Select Button Hold="1" // Enable this option if using a gear select device that holds down a joystick button while in a gear and releases all buttons in neutral (such as the Act-Labs USB Shifter)
FFB steer force max change="100.00000" // Maximum change per second based on current difference between calculated and applied force, to help avoid jerky behavior (values under 15 or so should reduce jerkiness, 100 disables)
Setup the right Steering lock in the Garage for your style of driving. For 540 degrees of rotation historically correct is 18 degrees steering lock, but you can use higher values as 24 for more comfort.
On turns 2, 3, 5, 11 and the last corner there are lines of new paved asphalt. With this mod + Logitech G27 wheel and these setups you can feel those lines and their bumpy relief as a charm! You can feel the tires when you step on them and when you drive on them. It's amazing!!! I tried many other mods with this track but none of them felt as good as this one. Try this mod with the tracks I listed above and you'll fall in love with this mod.
