We are thinking of running EGS_Windows on an AIX Unix server, i.e. on one
node of an IBM SPP system. The graphics display would be a Windows NT
computer running XVision (a program emulating an X-Windows terminal).
If any of you have tried to run EGS_Windows_4.0 on a server using a
X-emulator (e.g. X-Windows) I would be very interested to hear about your
experiences (good or bad). If you have a comment on X-emulator versus a
Linux partition a PC it is welcome as well.

I have managed to run EGS-Windows 4.0 in an X-Windows terminal window on
an Windows NT4 machine running PC-Xware 5.01. The remote server machine
is a 350 MHz Pentium II PC running Red Hat Linux 7 and the Gnome display
manager (gdm).
The performance of EGS Windows is significantly slower in the client
X-Window than when using the remote server machine directly and is
liable to crash now and again. I think this may be due to the Gnome
display manager (gdm v2.0 beta) that I am using which is still under
development. I would expect a commercial display manager to perform much
better. I have yet to find any better linux display managers that work.
I hope this helps.
Regards.
David.
