Title: Comments on "Analysis of Two-body Decays of Charmed Baryons Using the
Quark-Diagram Scheme"
Author: Yoji Kohara
Comments: 14 pages, 2 figures, latex
Report-no: NU961
\\
It is proved that the nonleptonic decay amplitudes of antitriplet charmed
baryons to octet baryons do not depend on the representation of the octet
baryons in the quark diagram scheme. Relations among various representations
are derived, and correct decay amplitudes of the charmed baryons are given.

Title: New phase structure of the Nambu -- Jona - Lasinio model at nonzero
chemical potential
Author: K.G. Klimenko, A.S. Vshivtsev (IHEP, Protvino, Russia)

It is shown that in the Nambu -- Jona - Lasinio model at nonzero chemical
potential there are two different massive phases with spontaneously broken
chiral symmetry. In one of them particle density is identically zero, in
another phase it is not equal to zero. The transition between phases is a phase
transition of the second order.

Title: Determination of the Bjorken Sum and Strong Coupling from Polarized
Structure Functions
Authors: Guido Altarelli, Richard D. Ball, Stefano Forte and Giovanni Ridolfi

\\
We present a NLO perturbative analysis of all available data on the polarized
structure function g_1(x,Q^2) with the aim of making a quantitative test of the
validity of the Bjorken sum rule, of measuring \alpha_s, and of deriving
helicity fractions. We take particular care over the small x extrapolation,
since it is now known that Regge behaviour is unreliable at perturbative
scales. For fixed \alpha_s we find that if all the most recent data are
included g_A=1.18\pm0.09, confirming the Bjorken sum rule at the 8% level. We
further show that the value of \alpha_s is now reasonably well constrained by
scaling violations in the structure function data, despite the fact that it
cannot yet be reliably fixed by the value of the Bjorken sum: our final result
is \alpha_s(m_Z) = 0.120+0.010-0.008. We also confirm earlier indications of a
sizeable positive gluon polarization in the nucleon.

Title: Scalar Glueball and Friends
Authors: Frank Close
Comments: Latex file. 6 figs. Invited talk at DAFCE Conference, Frascati
Report-no: RAL-97-004
\\
The $f_0(1500)$ is identified in three glueball favoured production
mechanisms: $p\bar{p}$ annihilation, $\psi \to \gamma f_0$ and Central
Production. The production rate for glueballs in $\psi \to \gamma G$ has been
quantified and the $f_0(1500)$ is found to be consistent with a glueball -
$q\bar{q}$ mixture. We illustrate a remarkable property of central production
where kinematic cuts appear to make a systematic separation between glueballs
and $q\bar{q}$ of the same $J^{PC}$. When the cut favouring glueballs is
applied, the $f_0(1500)$ and other enigmatic states appear prominently while
confirmed $q\bar{q}$ states are empirically suppressed.

Title: Predictions for s-Wave and p-Wave Heavy Baryons from Sum Rules and
Constituent Quark Model
Authors: Dan Pirjol and Tung-Mow Yan
Comments: 46 pages, REVTeX with 3 included figures
Report-no: CNLS 97/1457, TECHNION-PH 97-01
\\
We study the strong interactions of the L=1 orbitally excited baryons with
one heavy quark in the framework of the Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation
Theory. The most general interaction Lagrangian describing the couplings of
these states among themselves and with the ground state heavy baryons contains
46 unknown couplings. We derive sum rules analogous to the Adler-Weisberger sum
rule which constrain these couplings and relate them to the couplings of the
s-wave heavy baryons. Using a spin 3/2 baryon as a target, we find a sum rule
expressing the deviation from the quark model prediction for pion couplings to
s-wave states in terms of couplings of the p-wave states. In the constituent
quark model these couplings are related and can be expressed in terms of only
two reduced matrix elements. Using recent CLEO data on $\Sigma_c^{*}$ and
$\Lambda_{c1}^+$ strong decays, we determine some of the unknown couplings in
the chiral Lagrangian and the two quark model reduced matrix elements. Specific
predictions are made for the decay properties of all L=1 charmed baryons.

In this letter, the possible appearance of N=2 supersymmetry at a low energy
scale is investigated in the context of unified theories. Introducing mirror
particles for all the gauge and matter multiplets of the Minimal Supersymmetric
extension of the Standard Model (MSSM), the measured values of sin^2 \theta_W
and \alpha_3(M_Z) indicate that the N=2 threshold scale M_{S_2} cannot be lower
than \sim 10^{14}GeV. If the U(1) normalization coefficient k is treated as a
free parameter, M_{S_2} can be as low as 10^9 GeV. On the other hand, if mirror
quarks and leptons are absent and a non-standard value for k is used, N=2
supersymmetry breaking could in principle occur at the electroweak scale.

Title: Testing Time Reversal Invariance in Exclusive Semileptonic B Meson
Decays
Authors: Guo-Hong Wu (TRIUMF), Ken Kiers (BNL), and John N. Ng (TRIUMF)

Report-no: TRI-PP-97-1
\\
We demonstrate that polarization measurements in exclusive semileptonic B
decays are powerful tools for unraveling non-standard model sources of
T-violation. Measurements of the transverse polarization of the \tau lepton
in the $B \rightarrow D \tau \overline{\nu}$ and $B \rightarrow D^* \tau
\overline{\nu}$ decays probe separately effective scalar and pseudoscalar
CP-violating four-Fermi interactions, whereas the D^* polarization in the
$B \rightarrow D^* l \overline{\nu}$ (l=e, \mu) decay is sensitive to an
effective right-handed quark current interaction. Two T-odd polarization
structures exist involving the D^* polarization and they can be isolated and
studied separately. An estimate of these T-odd effects is also given in the
context of supersymmetric theories.

Title: The Coulomb potential in gauge theory with a dilaton
Authors: Rainer Dick
Report-no: LMU-TPW-97/02
\\
I calculate the potential of a pointlike particle carrying SU$(N_c)$ charge
in a gauge theory with a dilaton. The solution depends on boundary conditions
imposed on the dilaton: For a dilaton that vanishes at infinity the resulting
potential is of the form $(r+r_\phi)^{-1}$, with $r_\phi$ inverse proportional
to the decay constant of the dilaton. Another natural constraint for the
dilaton $\phi$ is independence of $(1/g^2)\exp(\phi/f_\phi)$ from
the gauge coupling $g$. This requirement yields a potential proportional to $r$
and makes it impossible to create an isolated SU$(N_c)$ charge.

Title: A nonlinear approach to NN interactions using self-interacting meson
fields
Authors: L. Jaede, H. V. von Geramb (Theoretische Kernphysik, Universitaet

\\
Motivated by the success of models based on chiral symmetry in NN
interactions we investigate self-interacting scalar, pseudoscalar and vector
meson fields and their impact for NN forces. We parametrize the corresponding
nonlinear field equations and get analytic wavelike solutions. A probability
amplitude for the propagation of particle states is calculated and applied in
the framework of a boson-exchange NN potential. Using a proper normalization of
the meson fields makes all self-scattering amplitudes finite. The same
normalization is able to substitute for the phenomenological form factors used
in conventional boson exchange potentials and thus yields an phenomenological
understanding of this part of the NN interaction. We find an empirical scaling
law which relates the meson self-interaction couplings to the pion mass and
self-interaction coupling constant. Our model yields np phase shifts comparable
to the Bonn B potential results and deuteron properties, in excellent agreement
with experimental data.
