Is anyone familiar with Search Probability Theory?

I'm looking for a formula to calculate new POA (probability of area) values
for a search grid, given the initial POAs and the PODs (probability of
detection).

i.e. you have a search grid, each section of which has a value corresponding
to the probability of finding the victim in that area (POA), you then do a
search with whatever resources you have available and estimate the
probability that the victim would have been found in that section if he was
there, and then calculate new POAs based on your results, prioritising your
search accordingly.

If theres any SAR experts reading this group, I'd really appreciate some
feedback ASAP.
