Charleston County (South Carolina, USA) Emergency Medical Service is a third
service Advanced Life Support system that responds to approximately 32,000
9-1-1 calls per year. Fourteen medic units and two Quick Response Vehicles
are strategically located to cover approx. 970 square miles. Extensive
standing orders and transport protocols are supported by dedicated and
committed Medical Director and Administrator. Our field operations personnel
work 24/48 and 12 hour shifts.

We hire EMT's at all levels, and hire EMT-Basics & Intermediates with the
expectation that they will soon progress to Paramedic. The minimum staffing
of all of our ambulances is an EMT-Basic and an EMT-Paramedic. The majority
of our medic units are dual paramedic staffed. We pay the cost of tuition
and books for paramedic training through an outside agency, and arrange the
employee's work schedule around the class schedule.
