There will be a 4-day HazCat Chemical Identification Workshop held in
Los Angeles on December 8th through December 11. The workshop is offered
in cooperation with the Los Angeles City Fire Department. Open
enrollment is available for hazardous materials emergency responders,
environmental health professionals, and hazardous waste contractors.

HazCat is a chemical identification system designed for hazardous
materials emergency responders and environmental health professionals.
HazCat identifies and categorizes over 1000 of the most commonly spilled

hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Unlike simple classification
methods, HazCat actually IDENTIFIES the unknown material, usually within

10 to 15 minutes.

HazCat is used by most major Fire Departments, the E.P.A. the U.S. Coast

Guard's Hazardous Materials Strike Teams, and environmental health
professionals throughout North America.

The 4-day HazCat workshop is a hands-on lab class; students actually
identify over 75 unknown hazardous substances. The workshop addresses
basic, intermediate, and advanced chemical identification, including
identification of mixed hazardous wastes, commonly spilled non-hazardous

materials, and proper sampling techniques.
