Hi Everyone,

As you might remember, I volunteered to take over Skywatch for Hilary, et al. in managing the game on an ongoing basis.  In order to have a sort of narrative break in the game and reset everyone's clocks and hopefully streamline things, I came up with a backstory of sorts for how this shake-up all went down. You can see a narrative posted over on the main group, and here's my summary OOC.

In brief, here are the changes:

The teams have been shaken up a bit.  SG4, 5, 6, and 8 are active.  SG7 can be considered an “NPC team” until and unless we start getting new players/characters. The Prometheus and “other ships” are in play if and when we need to use them, or if we get serious again about having one of them as a player-character location.

The shaking up event, the attack on the SGC, is sufficiently broad and vague enough that everyone can have their place in the metaphorical sun if they so choose. Invent your own hero or tragedy moments, each character was probably wounded in some way and the severity of it is up to you. Likewise, the potential psychological residue, be it trauma, anger, or whatever is there for the playing-with. The only guideline is not to step on each others’ toes and to try to be vaguely realistic about each character’s contribution. Go ahead and backpost stuff if you’re inspired by anything, or just have your character discuss it with others, have nightmares, whatevs.

Because of the nature of the attack, there are opportunities for missions onworld and off to go after this main plot. (Which, incidentally, like all good RPG plots, is not remotely set in stone. I have definite ideas about who is doing what and why and how, but I’m open to any good ideas that come along.) There’s also plenty of opportunities within the SGC for rebuilding type stories and people just struggling to get over what all happened. The proposed timeline for the game will kick off in June of 20XX, one month after the attack, so it’s still fresh in everyone’s minds. And of course we can still have weird one-off missions and “planet of the week” stuff.

By fiat, I’m declaring that, as currently in-real-life, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is a thing of the past, and anyone with a character of LGBTQ leanings is a little more free to deal with those in a more modern context.

Yes, this is a diversion from the events of the show. The episode “Heroes” never happened, Frazier is alive and well, and so on. Cameron Mitchell has come on to serve under Sam Carter on SG-1, but there is no Ori plot and that is definitively not the source of the threat to the SGC. Vala may or may not be wandering the halls of the SGC, but as before all of those characters are only available for cameos, at best. We can consider this a branch universe of sorts, if that makes you feel better about the changes. ;)

Potential topics in the air for your characters then include: the psychological and physical scars of the attack, still-damaged portions of the SGC, increased security for the facility and systems, the mystery of who organized the attack, and so on. If anyone still playing has based characters they would like to be wounded and in-recovery, let me know and I have added that as a section to the character page (and Katie has graciously volunteered Jamie Acantilado to be one of the based-wounded). Again, keep things sane and realistic, if at all possible.

How things will be run, I hope:  I, along with anyone who wants to brainstorm with me, will come up with the mission ideas. These will get presented in the same briefing format that we’ve been using, just hopefully with a slightly more sarcastic commanding general. The team leaders will just be another PC on the team, and it will be the GM pointing the teams in the right-ish direction. If teams get bogged down or slowed up, I’ll be the one poking people to get going (though help from the team leaders will be appreciated), and I’ll be the one to drop in random events, NPC complications, and so on.

If a team goes a week without a post of some kind or another, or JP chatter in their OOC group, then I reserve the right to drop a random event on top of things to shake stuff up and get people moving. While I love the epic JPs as much as anyone, we don’t want to spend a month on them at the expense of overall forward motion, I think. If we lose touch with players mid-mission, then we will just background them and I will move them around as gingerly as I can to keep things rolling forward.

At this point, we’ll all be time-synced. I’d like to try to have regular mini-events that will keep us relatively in sync.  One regular option is the services’ anniversary celebrations. Otherwise, there’s always the holidays and so on. But that will depend on keeping the missions moving forward somewhat briskly.

If anyone has any particular ideas based on what I’ve offered here, let me know, and if anyone wants to help GM, then by all means please contact me.

The Teams:

SG4:  Benson, Dutton, DP, Hunt, Timorov

SG5:  Cochraine, Zhu, Hicks, Sawyer, Masterson

SG6:  Levitz, Prezeres, Bowers, Ockman, Thompson

SG8:  Serra, Mosley, Howard, Wilfred, Rookwood

If anyone has any objections to the teams as they’re listed here, let me know, but I shot for fairly balanced teams and keeping together--and apart--certain pairings. Also, if everyone could let me know what sort of ongoing romantic entanglements they sees themselves in at this point, I would appreciate it.

All these changes are already live on the site.

Ooh this is exciting!

A couple of questions though... are we able to start posting right
away and, if so, are you sending us out mission details or is it more
of a general catch up, 'how things stand' type thing for now until we
get everything going again?

Also, are the OOC groups for individual teams still going to be used
for team briefings and plots etc?

Rich and I are talking out a 'catch-up'/series of quick vignettes for Judith, Jake and Matt to figure out what they've been up to and get them ready to roll... it'll all be flashbacky, so we can post it whenever. I don't know yet what I'm doing with the rest of them. :P

Hilary, we definitely have to do something with Josiah and Alyssa, especially now that they're on the same team!

Which reminds me - when in the timeline do the new team assignments take place?  Should we be starting this up after having been teammates for a while, or do we start with "okay everyone.  these are your new teams.  Get to know one another, and good luck." ?

-Lisa

PS - anyone else on the East Coast, and is everyone okay?

Definitely! I'm going to hold off for a bit with Alyssa as teammate, though - I asked Dave about team assignments/previous plotline stuff with Thompson, and I don't know yet if she's moving or he is or neither. As soon as that's sorted, I want a post whether they're still together on a team or not. {{huggles Josiah}}

We're east coast and getting a thunderstorm right now, but otherwise ok. My dad's down with my sister & neiblings in Connecticut right now and they haven't checked in yet today (all was well as of yesterday afternoon, though), so fingers crossed.

Did Josiah and Alyssa have a thing?  (This is why I need this information! ;) )

So, I'm thinking about a week or two for everyone to get up at least something from their characters. I'll probably start with mine today or tomorrow, depending. Then, probably right about the time I leave for Europe for a week, I'll be dumb and try to start mission briefings for all the teams.  Dumb dumb dumb.  But, I want to keep things moving and at least have something going over the holidays.

The OOC lists are still there and they will be used for team announcements from me. I'll just have to make sure the right players are on them!

The team assignments take place somewhere in that month after the attack. I recommend JP-ing the meet-and-great of people who haven't met each other yet in-game. That's the other point of the lag between now and the first missions is to make sure we can put out those JPs. And if people feel like they need more than a couple weeks to do that, then I can delay the mission starts.

They did not! He's a big brother figure to her, and while she did come on to him once, while soused, it was a Big Bad Idea and ended up in a tequila-fuelled coming-out pity party. And a brutal hangover.

OH YES Bronwen and Will!~

And no Dave, Josiah and Alyssa don't have a Thing.  We're all good if she comes to 8.  They are more like bros than anything else.  If she moves, I feel like it'll be the best team ever!  But if not, I'm still psyched that 8 is in tact as much as it is.  Wooo!

Timeline confirmation request, because some of us were wondering - how long has it actually been since we last saw our intrepid heroes? One month, six months, a year?

I had assumed that the virus had been introduced into the system behind the scenes at some point in previous game time, and we're only about a month out from when last posts happened, but others have had various different impressions. What's the official word?

I did not have a specific time in mind, but I don't think it immediately followed on the heels of whatever missions we're sort of aborting mid-stream. Word Of GM, I'll say the attack was somewhere between two to four weeks since we last saw our heroes. So, over all no more than two months has passed.

And yes, the introduction of the virus is a (dirty word alert) retconned event. But I also want to be able to fold in prior events if the opportunities arise. Not to undermine previous stories/missions, just maybe set them in a different context.

I was wondering the same time-line thing this afternoon!  (Perhaps not the best thing to think about when working on a client's multi-million pound portfolio but there we go...)

Lisa, we should do a Will/Keiko JP if you're up for it!  And Hilary, Aidan/Alyssa?  And JPs with anyone else who want them really!

~Katie

P.s Hilary, glad to hear you guys are okay, my fingers are crossed for your sister though.  And everyone else in the path of the storm.

I'm thinking an epic team-up of Timorov and Zhu!  They'll definitely want to rescue/save/protect their friends, etc.  Maybe a JP with them (played by me, natch), with Katie and Kristi playing Aiden and Lucy?  Anyone else want in, too?

Also, in case you didn't know, Dave - Lucy Bowers and Timorov are involved, so there's that angle to consider in the future.

This is totally great - a chance to reboot and move forward!

Sorry to have been so quiet - I was recently hired by another section and given the task to completely revamp three major programs ASAP - and now that it's moving forward, I'll have more time to write.

I'm going to have Ki in the hospital with some pretty serious wounds - but if anyone wants to JP with me, I'm all set and rarin' to go!

I'm writing up a JP with Kristi (who plays Lucy Bowers, Sasha's girlfriend), using both Sasha and Stephen!  Be on the lookout for kung fu action!

I'm up for another, if anyone else is interested!
