So it should come as a surprise to absolutely no-one that we've kind of
fallen off the radar over the last few months. All four GMs have been
entirely consumed by real life and other projects, and I don't foresee a
near future in which I'm going to have the time to dedicate to running
Skywatch (plots, maintenance, advertising, etc) the way it needs to be
run in order to keep things fun.

I have no intention of closing the game.

If anyone is interested in taking it over, however, I'd much rather see
someone else take what we've built and run with it (in whatever
direction) than see it die after so many years! I'm happy to continue
hosting the site, and will turn over wiki passwords and list admin
rights and such as necessary.

So if anyone is still interested in Skywatch, and would be interested in
taking over as GM, let me know. If not, things probably won't change
much in terms of my ability to remain involved on a planning level, but
I won't shut the lists or website down.

(If things stay as quiet as they are, I'm going to let the domain lapse
when it comes up for renewal in the spring - I can move the site to a
subdomain on one of our other websites and save the ten bucks a year. If
the game picks up again, I'll keep it.)

I'd love to see Skywatch revitalized and busy again, and I'll continue
playing no matter what happens.

So. Takers?

Hilary.

I am very, very tentatively interested in doing some game-running. I'm thinking we would have to seriously collapse the player-teams down a bit to accommodate the current GMs' busy-busy lives, especially as they seem to have half the player characters between them.

I'm also happy to outline a storyline (or even a backstory) in order to make that whittling down happen as an in-game event.

I would be good with that.

Thinking aloud:

I'd keep Benson and Alyssa, and be happy to bench Mimi, move her back to medical. She was supposed to have become an owned NPC back at the beginning, but we needed another CO for the game size at that point. Sonya, Caius and Jake are all basically ONPCs already.

-Also just contributing to speculation:
If we end up consolidating teams, I'd be okay sacrificing Fulci back to ONPC base security.

Being the most serious slack ass here, let me give my two cents. Things
have gotten stagnant. There's not a lot of blood going through the veins
of the game at the moment. Consolidation sounds like a great idea. But
consolidate how far? The game world with all of its teams and side
bases, etc. is humongous. So do we pare teams? Pare base staff? Make it
smaller scope? That could be an in game event.

Also, there's no way I could take on GM responsibilities, but I would be
glad to help. My 'I'm back' summer post backfired badly. My fibro turned
out to be early onset Parkinsons misdiagnosed. I'm going to have to work
with testing and meds and such, but I should be around more. I'd really
love a catch up to speed be 'here' now.

I've been sitting here waiting for SG8 to get back into the groove.  If it would help, I wouldn't mind stepping up to GM, even if only temporary.  Sure, it would be a challenge but I'm stable RL wise and have the time.  But I wouldn't want to do this if I didn't have everyone's support.  Its not an ego thing that I'm fronting myself here, I would just like to see Skywatch continue and if it means contributing more time, I'm okay with it.

I'm not going to volunteer to GM for all the usual reasons, BUT I will say that if there's an assistant position available, say, secretary to the GM for any of the teams I'm on, I'll do that.  I often functioned as a secretary of sorts for Denise before Katie came along, and I'm totally willing to assist you as well.  I don't want to see this game go away.  I really love 8 - it was my first assignment, and while we've gone through changes in staff, I've always been on 8.  But if it's between collapsing teams down or closing up shop, I choose collapsing teams.

I'm glad to hear the game isn't closing. But I have to agree - it has
grown stagnant. I've had to poke writers repeatedly to get things
moving forward. And in some cases, I understand completely, as I
suffer from it myself; being a MSgt in a Nuclear Weapons role eats my
time far more than I like... >.<

However, I'm willing to help out when and where I can. Don't think I
can manage the overall picture, but I'm definitely willing to keep on
writing - I would *HATE* to see this sim die the death of old age. I
*do* think paring back the Teams and reducing low-use characters would
be a good idea, though.

Anything I can do to give it a shot in the arm would be fine with me.

So in the interests of not losing any momentum on this, some actual concrete action:

Can we get a roll call, see who is still interested in playing?

Seems like me and Dave V. are down for running, and if he wants (and anyone else wants to step up) we can start a side conversation on how to do it and what we see as our goals and ideas and work process and all that.

My proposal would be for everyone active to go to two PCs, and recombine the teams from there, depending on what made sense with ranks and specialties and whatnot. Everyone else could be based or, if the players are gone gone, killed off in an appropriately dramatic and angst-inducing fashion.  Anyone based could still be active for SGC-type stories, but the priority would be for team missions.  I think it would be fine to keep particular team numbers (and the "abandoned" teams could still exist as NPC teams, filled with nameless clones of our heroic characters), but we would end up needing to make some tough choices, regardless.

Thoughts or amendments?

I'll do a roll call now and see what's what. I'd like to give folks a few more days to weigh in, especially those I've seen active on other social media platforms but who haven't checked in here in a while. (I know you're aliiiiiiive... /creeper)

I think two works - certainly no more than that for the moment. Based characters and NPCs can still be played, obviously; but if we're to get anything going again there need to be active teams that don't get hung up waiting for one or two people who vanish.
