That's the thing, when I start up the computer I open finder and I can see the NAS in the Locations section on the left, I click on the NAS name and that is when I get the connection failed indication, the shared folder doesn't actually mount to the Desktop. I don't have the shared Home folder of the NAS setup to automatically login in the System Preferences > Users/Groups > Login Items tab because when I did that in the past the shared Home folder (or any other folder) does mount on the Desktop but I also have the Finder window for that shared folder pop up on every startup which is mildly annoying. I was getting along fine by manually clicking on the NAS name in Finder when I wanted to access it and it would login using the NAS user name and password saved in Keychain Access but that doesn't seem to work anymore.
Thanks, dragging it into the dock worked. It mounts now without automatically opening a finder window. I can click on the folder icon in the dock to open a window showing all the shared folders and there is an "open in finder" option in there as well. Appreciate the suggestion.

F-secure keeps blocking a program I use. It is QNAP finder which locates my NAS on my network.
Under application control it is listed for both ingoing and outgoing traffic.
I have added two rules to open ports 8097 and 9500 but still the program cannot find my NAS. When I switch of the firewall no problem.
I have a Qnap NAS connected to Qnap QSW-M2108-2C managed switch. That switch has one port leading to the internet and another port connected to a MacBook running Qfinder Pro. Everything was working fine and I was able to connect to the NAS successfully over the network. However, after relocating all of the above gear to a new location I have not been able to successfully connect and I cannot figure out what is the problem. All of the devices seem to be acquiring new IP addresses over DHCP and on an initial scan Qfinder sees the NAS. But there is an orange exclamation point in the status column and attempts to connect fail followed by the NAS disappearing from Qfinder on subsequent scans.
Every Qnap NAS I have ever set up came with a fixed IP that had nothing to do with the subnet of the network I was installing it on. I had to first install the Qfinder utility on a workstation or server and use that to set it's IP address, then the web interface became available.
This is a fresh install of Sonarr and it starts up all fine and everything seems fine all except my problem above. I can see the NAS in my Mac mini finder which is where I have Sonarr installed as well as the mounted folders in the NAS. Am sure I have NAS settings right but not 100% as seems to be a problem somewhere, but wish I knew where.
I've recently added a Deco M5 mesh system to my house. Prior to adding the system everything with my QNAP TS431P was working perfectly. I could access it through the web interface, I could find it in Qfinder Pro and I could map the drives to both my wifes Windows 10 laptop and my Macbook pro and time machine was backing up. Since installing the Deco I can only access the NAS via the web brower. Qfinder Pro no longer finds the NAS and the mapped network drives don't work and time machine hasn't backed up.
The message below comes up through Qfinder Pro, I'm not sure how to action other than I've checked and it appears that both the NAS and deco and computer are all on the same subnet. The NAS seems to be booted, and when I turn off the Antivirus on the Deco it makes no difference.
After the Qfinder Pro is installed on your computer, launch it. The Qfinder Pro will automatically scan and find all your QNAP devices on your local area network. For example, you can select your QNAP NAS device, then, at the top left of the page, click the Login icon.
Note: QNAP Qfinder Pro is a highly advanced program, even compared to Synology Assistant. Graphically, it is very intuitive, and scanning the local network is done instantly, without having to wait at all.
Should you not have an Internet connection available the best option would be to run the Qfinder software from the CD. The TS-221 and TS-220 came with Qfinder 4.0.1 which is vastly improved from the previous version.
QNAP Qfinder Pro allows you to quickly find and easily access all of the QNAP NAS on the same LAN. This article will serve as an informative guide and give you a clear understanding of how to perform a silent installation of QNAP Qfinder Pro from the command line using the EXE installer.
After a few moments you should see the Qfinder Pro Desktop Shortcut appear. You will also find entries in the Start Menu, Installation Directory, and Programs and Features in the Control Panel.
