Hello Alex,

I want to use SDR++ or SDRSharp to decode the signal due to better audio filtering, but I cannot use rigctrl to automatically change the frequency or mode in SDR++ or SDRSharp. I'm trying to use skyroof as a gpredict alternative but I cannot seem to control my SDR software using rigctrl from skyroof. It seems the software only supports simplex and duplex radios but my software cannot support either. I've tried modifing the cat_info.json file but the file resets every time I launch skyroof.

Can you please add support for SDR decoders like SDR++ and SDRSharp through Rig Control.

Sincerely From,
Carl Strange

Hi Carl,

I am not sure about SDRSharp, but SDR++ understands the same commands as rigctld.exe, so you should be able to control it from SkyRoof. If you cannot, this is probably just a configuration issue. However, I think you are taking a wrong course of action. Instead of running a second SDR program in parallel with SkyRoof, you should tell us what filters you need for your decoding, then I will see if I can add them in SkyRoof.

My plan was to use audio and baseband filtering from a new fork of SDR++ called SDR++ Brown. Essentially I want to adjust the samplerate to 250k and utilize audio and baseband filtering from the plugin to enhance the sound quality. But connecting skyroof cat control and SDR++ rigctl server doesn't connect. I found that SDR++ keeps trying to connect but fails every time no matter what I adjust. I could send some packet captures or debug logs from skyroof if you want. However I don't know how to edit the cat_info.json file without the file being reset. If you want to implement the audio / baseband filtering, I recommend adding a samplerate setting to adjust RTL-SDR samplerate, and possibly implement similar filtering for audio. I'll leave some links below on the SDR++ Brown logmmse audio filtering stuff if you're interested.

Now it would be nice if you would add another Cat Control Radio for SDR++. It's also important to note that I've been testing Rigctrl using the normal SDR++ program instead of SDR++ Brown since it introduces some bugs. Anyways good luck and great job on the project. It's too bad that all three NOAA APT satellites have been shutdown permanantly because of "budget" reasons.

Sincerely,

Please try v.1.20, it should work with sdr++ now.

It works perfectly with no obvious issues. You have been the most responsive developer I have ever contacted. Thank you so much.
