Hi Alex, is it possible to get a DVB-S/S2 decoder since a satellite (MARMOT SAT) has been launched that will transmit a video beacon in DVB-S2? Thanks as always.

SkyRoof cannot decode digital television, those signals are too wideband for that.

The traditional amateur‑radio experiments installed on MARMOTSat include a half‑duplex digipeater in the style of IO‑117 and a VHF CW telemetry beacon, a 10‑meter CW telemetry beacon, and a DVB‑S2 beacon compatible with QO‑100‑style transmissions at 33 kHz or 66 kHz on the 10‑meter band. This DVB‑S2 beacon provides a live video feed, received by amateur‑radio operators, from an onboard camera.

The bandwidth can be detailed as follows: “Beacon DVB‑S2 QPSK, SR = 33 kS/s, roll‑off = 0.25, BW ≈ 41 kHz” “Beacon DVB‑S2 QPSK, SR = 66 kS/s, roll‑off = 0.25, BW ≈ 82 kHz”

When referring to QO‑100‑style operation, a low roll‑off (0.20–0.25) is appropriate to keep the occupied bandwidth narrow. If the modulation is QPSK, the beacon parameters will be: “Beacon DVB‑S2 QPSK, SR = 33 kS/s, roll‑off = 0.25, BW ≈ 41 kHz” “Beacon DVB‑S2 QPSK, SR = 66 kS/s, roll‑off = 0.25, BW ≈ 82 kHz”

For 33 kS/s:

  • Occupied bandwidth: ≈41 kHz

  • Recommended channel spacing: 45–50 kHz (to allow guard band)

For 66 kS/s:

  • Occupied bandwidth: ≈82 kHz

  • Recommended channel spacing: 90–100 kHz
