Is there by chance a new version of  gwskype subsequent to the old gwskype becoming obsolete?  I have downloaded the latest version of skype, but it isn’t the most screenreader friendly program that I have ever used<smile>.

Thanks for any advice.

Hello,

Oh, in fact the latest Skype is very accessible, especially if you turn on accessibility inside the options dialog. Messages are also read automatically if you're focused inside the chat window at the moment when message arrives.
Now the storey about regarding other accessible solutions for Skype, for all of You not informed:
I developed SkypeTalking actively from early 2010 to early 2012. If I remember well, in middle 2012, Microsoft decided to kill support for all Skype addons until the end of the year. Technically described, they've decided to kill old legacy Skype API that we developers use for getting information from Skype program, such as incoming calls, messages, friend requests etc. As the time goes, they didn't kill support and many people reported to me that SkypeTalking still works even with new Skype versions. However, this was not encouraging me to continue with development, since there were issues for some users with Skype API from every newer version of Skype, as well as no guarantee that Microsoft will not kill the support sooner or later. So if we don't know where are we at, and what's gonna happen afterwards such Microsoft's decision, developing such application is unprofitable.
And GW Connect, which was complete Skype alternative developed by people from GW Micro, also stopped working recently. So Microsoft also decided to kill support for Skype Kit, that GW Connect was using, and
Skype Kit had to be a successor to legacy Skype API.
So, it definitely means that Microsoft, since they've purchased Skype, has turned to other goals and decisions for further Skype development. What's good for us is that they improved accessibility in Skype, but if you forget to tick the accessibility checkbox and you don't know it, then it will be less accessible.
If SkypeTalking is still working for anyone of You, I am glad to hear that, but unfortunately, no new versions are planned until Microsoft gives us better and stable option for communicating with Skype commands.
Back in 2010, first I wrote SkypeTalking just for myself in order to make Skype more accessible with my favorit screen reader, NVDA. I wrote it as a separate app since it was much easier for me to write it as a separate app then making NVDA script. Since SkypeTalking was not tied to a particular screen reader, later on, I implemented support for all other screen readers, including SAPI5 TTS output. Now my only solution is to write an NVDA addon with all SkypeTalking features, but for now I'll leave this to someone else.

LP,
Hrvoje

No there is not and never will be again a new version of gw connect. What screen reader are you using.  Skype is quite screen reader friendly. Just let us know what screen reader program is in use and we might be able to help you.

Good afternoon for a rainy Phoenix.  I use Window Eyes and the latest version of skype.  Having checked the accessibility box under tools, options, accessibility, I am doing a bit better.  I am sure that another day or two of getting used to everything will find me in pretty good shape.

Thanks.

Well, I found that with jaws version 14 and under, the only big
problem is that if you type a chat message, then if you make a mistake
and want to correct it, then jaws won't really report what you erase,
neither when you press left or rite arrow, at leasssst in 15 its much
better, but that is why I stil wunder how much accessibility microsoft
really gave us? Why do the skype scripts stil exist then? And even
those are not really good enough. SkypeTalking was the best for those
who didn't want to switch to gw.

I have been using Skype Talking from 0.6 and will continue to do so
until the old API dies or something else comes along.
It just helps my work day flow better.

Hi All!

I am using Window-Eyes and Skype, latest versions.
How do I join People to a Group call?
Using Skype Talking, I can join two, but no more.
I am a member of a Computer club, for the Blind, and often need to add
up to ten People at each Meeting.
With GWConnect, it was easy.
If someone can help me, many People will be grateful.

Hi Richard!

Thank you for your reply.
I have just spent two Hours, trying to find the Invite button. I
answered the first one with Alt-pgu. The second with Control-Alt-Shift-Pgu.
After that, I could answer other People, but can't join them in, or get
back to the People that have been put on hold.
Please, where am I going wrong? or what am I missing?
I understand this is using Skype Talking, not just Skype?

Rob.

As I understand, skypetalking only adds a couple of people, I found I needed
not to use skype talking when starting the adding, though it does run,
finding the conversation, spacing to be sure it's selected, up arrowing when
each call comes in and doing application key, then hitting letter I for
invite.
I've not been hosting for 8 months now because I'm in a facility that
doesn't allow skype to be used.
I got 3/4 of both heels burned of by chemicals, so it'll be just a bit
longer before I can get back to my radio station and skype again.
Hope the step through helps with confusion.
Richard
