Hi all,
I got a report from one of the users that SkypeTalking works again with
Skype 7.1, which should be the latest version.
If so, can someone confirm that all commands are working and that the
authorization of the app is working as well. I'm on Linux, so I can't do
this myself until I setup a Windows virtual machine.
If SkypeTalking is stable enough and if Microsoft really decided to keep
it alive, I can consider continuing with further development of
SkypeTalking.
Thanks,
Hrvoje

Thanks for report.
Anyone else? If You confirmed that it works on Your side, please share.
Then version 2.0 will be on it's way. My feeling is that Microsoft
decided to keep legacy API until they make something better.

Yeah, SkypeTalking and Skype version 7.1 seem to be working well right now.

Hi,

I installed Skype 7.1 and had Window-eyes running.

I was working with a consumer and Window-eyes announced the status
change. Something it had not done sense 6.21.

I installed Skype Talking and to my delight, it worked!

Off to reinstall my call recorder that also relied on the api.

Thank you!
I'm waiting for reports from users until the end of week. Then I can
start with writing plans for version 2.0. Some of my currently planned
features are:
- Saving event history onto the hard drive so it can be kept after
SkypeTalking restarts.
- More automatic update procedure.
- Auto repeat caller Id.
- Contacts birthday viewer.
- Redesigned SMS sender.
- Support for SAPI4 voices.
- Changing SAPI voices.
- Support for other OS's such as Linux (and Mac OS if possible).

Good times.

Hi!
I have installed SkypeTalking 0.9.6 today, and, so far, it seems to be working fine with Skype 7.1, although I haven't tested every single command yet. Authorising SkypeTalking was just as easy now as it was in the past.
The only bug I've found is that I have to restart SkypeTalking to turn off the Key Describer, but maybe that bug existed in the past and I probably forgot about it, as I haven't used SkypeTalking for quite a while.
But at least I can confirm that SkypeTalking definitely works on Skype 7.1 right now, and I had no problems authorizing it.
Bye for now!

Ok, I'll try to reproduce what's wrong with key describer.
My idea, in fact, is fully redesign of SkypeTalking GUI. This means that
it'll have two modes, GUI and background, like some newer Twitter
clients such as Chicken Nugget and TWBlue.
The GUI mode will display all the contacts, will allow you to send and
recieve chats, as well as setting up preferences.
The background mode will operate as before, but some shortcuts will be
reserved for other stuff.
You will be able to show gui automatically at startup, or go directly in
background mode.

Hi,
First I can confirm that skype talking works fine here. I have tried all commands. I have no problems so far. I have not had any facebook contacts come on line yet so I do not no if they have fixed the issue with face book chats not going threw the skype API. Of course when you are working with the next branch of NVDA you do get some double speech as NVDA now handles skype events using MSAA. There does not seem to be any way of turning this off and instructing NVDA to not report these things.
I can not reproduce the key describer bug. It works fine here.

Yes it'll work as before for manual updates. If you turn on automatic
updates, they will be installed silently with no need for user intervention.

This will not be a problem once SkypeTalking chat gui is implemented.
Also automatic speaking of messages can be turned off in SkypeTalking
preferences.

Ok what would be the advantage of making a GUI for skype talking? Well ok it already has one of sort for configuring settings etc. this is clearly needed. What exactly will this new GUI do? I of course can turn off and on whatever I wish as far as what skype talking speaks. It would be nice though to have the option whether or not I want to hear output from NVDA or skype talking.
Will there be a keyboard command if I am running skype talking in the back ground mode to open this new GUI?

As I said in previous message, the gui will display contact list, will
have context menus for making calls or instant messages, chat windows
and history. In short, it'll behave like GW Connect. This is for users
who don't prefer original Skype gui, and also to reserve some keyboard
shortcuts for other stuff.

Oh sorry I forgot to say.
The gui will be accessible from the system tray, and I got this idea
when I tried MP3 Skype recorder. The keyboard shortcut for gui will be
Alt+Control+Shift+S for SkypeTalking.

Oh cool deal. Thanks for the explanation. Sorry if you already covered this I guess I missed that earlier message. Note for NVDA users it seems that if you turn off all displaying of information from within skype regarding notifications skype talking will get the information and NVDA will no longer double speak. It still will double speak chat messages. Meaning right now NVDA will start to read a chat and then skype talking will interrupt that chat and start reading it again.
Might be a good idea to turn off reading of chats from within skype talking for now.
Thanks

If you are talking about apps such as call recorders that rely on the
Skype API like Skype Talking does, yes.
If you are talking about apps that use the SkypeKit like GW Connect, no.

Hi!
I should point out that in NVDA 2014.4 there is no double-speaking of messages. I gather that new snapshots of NVDA include automatic reading of Skype chat messages, but NVDA 2014.4, which I'm currently using, does not. So, as I don't use NVDA snapshots, I'm keeping SkypeTalking's reading of written chat messages turned on till NVDA 2015.1 is released, which I gather will include better access to Skype for NVDA users who don't use SkypeTalking.
I must say that, even though I managed fine using Skype without SkypeTalking for quite a long time, it's still great to have SkypeTalking back, after thinking that it had gone forever when Skype announced it would stop its Desktop API.

Hrvoje Katić this is great news. I wunder why did Microsoft then
announced they will stop the desktop API if they decide to keep this
one? If you can update, I will defnitly use it as I need the ability
to switch between SAPI voices. Hopefully windows10 will give us more
drastic changes to SAPI.
