Hi all,
Once again, thanks for confirming how SkypeTalking works with 7.1.
I've installed Skype 7.1 and current stable version of SkypeTalking
onto my computer education attendant's laptop. The results are ok,
though Skype pops up a worning with a link to FAQ every time when
SkypeTalking starts. I haven't found the way how to disable this,
except that I've checked to run SkypeTalking before Skype starts.
After that, a warning was no longer displaying. Second, Skype 7.1
for Windows is not downloadable from Skype's official web site. They
are even not mentioning Skype 7.1 for Windows, only for Mac. The
last download points to Skype 7.0. So I had to download Skype 7.1
from
filehipo.com, and then I got Skype 7.1. Third, Microsoft didn't
update FAQ shown after clicking a link on Skype's warning. They're
still mentioning that only call recorders will work. So, it's quite
confusing.
Nevertheless, SkypeTalking 2.0 is planned and will be released
during spring or summer 2015 with most planned features. Alpha and
Beta shit will be available in binary formats, for anyone who don't
wanna deal with source code but still wanna test new features and
report bugs.
Now prerequisits:
1. Don't bother me with questions such as "When 2.0 will be
released". It'll be released when it'll be released and when it'll
be ready. If situation gets complicated, the time for the planned
release may even be delayed. So, questions like this will simply be
ignored. Also, I currently have a job and other stuff to do, so it
will also slow me down.
2. Feature requests and bug reports will be accepted, but it depends
if they will be implemented. Remember, SkypeTalking is free and open
source software, so anyone who has coding knowledge can jump in and
contribute. Also, although development is continued it still walks
on a glassy feet and may easily break with future Skype versions,
since we still don't have a confirmation by Skype team about the
future of Skype plugins. I also have other tasks to do and thus I
can't promis that all bug fixes and features will be implemented.
Chritical bugs will be fixed, so don't warry. Questions such as
"When this bug will be fixed" or "Will you implement this and that"
will be ignored.
3. Reports such as "SkypeTalking doesn't work" will be ignored. In
this case you have to check your Skype version and make sure that
it's compatible, as well as try reinstalling the program and cleanup
your settings under %appdata%\SkypeTalking. If it still doesn't
work, please give step by step how to reproduce the problem,
otherwise You'll be ignored!
4. Before reporting bugs such as Messages not reading, Calls not
handeled properly, File transfers not announced etc., check your
Skype version and inform Yourself about how SkypeTalking works with
that Skype version. If you don't tell me which version of Skype
You're using, sorry I can't help.
Source code and translation:
SkypeTalking source code repository will be hosted on github, and
translation files will be hosted on assembla. This is to separate
source code from message files, so people without coding knowledge
may not break source code accidentally, as well as to allow people
to make translations without having to download entire source code.
Binaries and source .7z archives will be hosted on googlecode like
before.
Before you decide contributing to the source code, first please read
the documentation on how to use git version control system, how to
use Python and how to compile the source along with dependencies. A
beginner questions such as How to compile, How to check out and
update source from github will be ignored.
For translators, I will post a guide on how to upload and update
translations onto assembla, so You can do translations even if You
don't have much knowledge but still want to contribute translations.
The final question is, why SkypeTalking is continued and how long it
will be alive?
First, SkypeTalking is continued because it works with latest Skype,
no matter what Skype team claims, and I wanna continue developing it
for friends and people who like it.
Second, SkypeTalking will be alive as long as Microsoft doesn't
break it or gives another way to communicate with all Skype
functions.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy new SkypeTalking stuff to come!
