One of my clients created a survey using the single URL delivery mode.
She added about about 40 addresses to the respondent list in a pool
called Respondents. She put her own address as the last one in the
list. When she sends, only she receives the invitation to fill out the
survey. Are we doing something wrong here?

This is one URL to the survey: http://skylight.wsu.edu/s/3bc5b3e8-fb5b-46f1-8773-c71b750ec0a3.srv

Thanks for your help. I called Peg last week but did not get an
answer. My client's survey is very much overdue.

A couple items of clarification:
1. you say "Single URL delivery mode" but it sounds like you are
using "E-Mail Personal URL" to email a URL to each respondent. Single
URL mode does not allow input of email addresses (but I'm just
checking we are on the same page)
2. can you or your client go into the respondent pool (named
Respondents) and on the right side, in the "Respondents" tab, confirm
that the 40 email addresses are listed and correctly formatted
3. When you (or your client) uses the "Message" function to send a
message to the respondents, on the 2nd screen where you can confirm
the email message, you can also view a drop down list of each
respondent. Can you confirm that this list looks like the list that
was input and also appears in #2 above?

Thank for more clues

Hi Sue
Nils will be handling your request, thanks Nils.

Please send Nils the exact text of the survey title to aid in locating the specific survey.

I never received a call last week or our voice mail system failed to deliver your call to me.  I certainly would call back as I have in the past.

Regards,
Peg

Peg, thanks for your reply. I am sending Nils the additional information requested.

Re the call: maybe I have the wrong number for you. I would have not bother you with a call, but we are in a bit of a crisis and it always takes me awhile to figure out how to get to that wiki to post the problem.

Thank you,

Sue

Hi Nils,

Thanks for the reply.I've been tied up all day and could not answer sooner.

#1. Yes, I messed up re URL type--I meant to say E-mail Personal URL
#2. Yes, the addresses are listed correctly and they are all there
#3. Yes, this is the same list that is in the right (URL) window of the respondent pool
This is the name of the survey: Catering 101 and Copier 101 Survey
Respondent pool name is Respondents2

Look forward to your reply.

Thanks for the replies.
I just did a couple tests, with the hypothesis that you had input bad
email addresses
I tried putting a common on the end of the email:

nils_p...@wsu.edu,

I also put in a valid looking but (i hope) bogus address

zz...@address.com

and then a totally invalid address

invalid.address.com

I expect to get a bounce email from the zzbad@address and don't know
what will happen for invalid.address

The system did not object, it says it processed all the addresses and
I got my invitation to the survey. I have not gotten any email bounce
or error from the other two, which is unfortunate in that it does not
give the author feedback.

I have not had any problems sending invitations this way, and wonder
if you can check with one respondent to see if the invitation went
into spam folder.

I will ask someone here to look into the error logs.

We looked into the respondent email addresses (looks fine) and into
the error logs. We don't see an error from you on the 14th when we
think you sent out the survey.

My new hunch is the body of your email message is very spammy

Your message read:
Subject:
Catering 101 and Copier 101 Survey

Body:
http://skylight.wsu.edu/s/XXXX-XXX-XXX.srv

By responding to this survey, you will automatically be entered into a
drawing for a digital Canon Camera courtesy of DocuProducts.

Thank you for your time.

Can you revise your message to something more like this:

Subject:
Catering 101 and Copier 101 Program Evaluation

Body:
You are getting this email because you participated in the Catering
101 or Copier 101 training sessions. Cal Lutheran Human Resources is
conducting an online survey about the effectiveness of this training.

To complete the survey, click the URL below. Be sure to click the
finish button at the bottom of the page.

By completing the survey you will automatically be entered into a
drawing for a digital Canon Camera courtesy of DocuProducts.

Thank you in advance from.....

I appreciate that you have been using the Skylight forum to work on this problem -- by doing so you are providing an opportunity for others to learn just by lurking -- and I have the hope that over time members of this list will jump in and help one another. We have experienced this on the WebCT Admins list and seek to emulate it here. (Lave & Wenger call this learning-by-lurking 'legitimate peripheral participation' and describe how it is part of joining a community of practice.)

Two more clues:
I learned from Peg Collins that CalLuthern has had problems with its campus spam filters and that in the past you have worked with your campus email system administrator to white list mail from our system. Perhaps that setting has been lost

Yesterday I tested a common error with emails entered from a list, that there is a trailing comma. That does not appear to cause Skylight a problem. I have now learned that a trailing blank space does cause a problem.

You might put all the emails into a spreadsheet and then use the trim function to make a new column of emails that you are sure don't have extra spaces before or after.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, Nils. Yes, we double/tripple checked the accuracy of the respondent addresses. Finally decided to send it using a single URL mode. I think it might have just been a fluke with that particular respondent pool. Anyhow, we're past the crisis and the survey was sent. Thank you again. Oh yes, we did white list your server at our gateway.
