This is in response to Ælfwine’s question from the Sky Manual Group’s last meeting about AutoEntry.
I figured out a way for you to use the AutoEntry feature for your index with lots of translated words. But I figured I’d share it with the Sky group as well.
We are in the AutoEntry Manager: Options>AutoEntry Manager OR Options>Data Entry>AutoEntry tab (I’m using Sky 8)
First of all, AutoEntry can only perform the two functions in the Actions column: ‘Duplicate and Swap’ OR ‘Duplicate, Swap, and Promote’. After that you have the choice in the PromoteChar column of ‘comma+space’ OR ‘space’; this dictates whether there will be a comma and a space when you choose the Promote action or just a space (it only affects the Promote action).
You must enter BOTH words or phrases in the Heading column on their own lines
You must check the Use AutoEntry box at the bottom under Options (this basically turns it on)
Duplicate and Swap: In the Auto Entry Manager enter the following:
Heading: English word
Action: Duplicate and Swap
PromoteChar: space (doesn’t matter for this action)
Heading: Arabic word
Action: Duplicate and Swap
PromoteChar: space (doesn’t matter for this action)
When you type 'English word' into the main heading and 'Arabic word' into the subheading, and then put in your locators and tab or enter through, it will duplicate and swap what you have: (the semicolons are just separators for the purposes of this email)
· You Type à Main: English word; Sub: Arabic word; Page: 25
Will automatically produce:
· Main: Arabic word; Sub: English word; Page 25
Note: the Action taken is dictated by the word you type into the Main Heading. If you put the action for English word (Heading column in the AutoEntry manager) as Duplicate and Swap, then it will perform that action, not the action of the word in the sub. If they are the same, then you don’t need to worry about it.
Duplicate, Swap, and Promote: Same Headings as above, but Duplicate, Swap and Promote for the Action and then the two different effects of Promote Char below:
If PromoteChar is ‘space’
· You Type à Main: English word; Sub: Arabic word; Page: 25
Will automatically produce:
· Main: Arabic word English word; Sub: (blank); Page: 25
If PromoteChar is ‘comma+space’
· You Type à Main: English word; Sub: Arabic word; Page: 25
Will automatically produce:
· Main: Arabic word, English word; Sub: (blank); Page: 25
Ælfwine: I’m not sure if this would be useful to you. If you are looking to get the Arabic word to automatically become a main, then this will do it, but you still have to type in the Arabic word into the sub. But with AutoComplete, it might not be too bad. AND you have to put them all into the AutoEntry. Now, if you already have a bunch double posted in your index, then you can press the 'Create AutoEntry list from index…' button at the bottom of the AutoEntry Manager, and it will hopefully auto populate what you already have. Anyway, I hope this helps, or at the very least enlightens the AutoEntry feature a bit.
Thanks,
Tony
