Hello everyone,

I recently got a new laptop and was using SKY 7 just fine. I've been getting messages to backup this, do that, do this, etc. This morning I clicked on something, saw a lot of things going somewhere, including index projects in reverse alpha order.

Now I can't retrieve any of my files on the SKY software. The old projects I don't care about, but I can't get to my two current projects either. I've tried clicking on different menu items on SKY and can't get anywhere.

I can print out yesterday's versions and reenter, but I am wondering if there is another way. I am not good with this stuff and would need step-by-step instructions.

Any help appreciated.

Judy

Judy, this sounds like a nightmare! Assuming that you’re using Windows operating system, have you tried using File Explorer to search for your files, either by file name or the .sk7 file format? You might also want to check the file locations listed in your SKY settings. If you go to Options>Preferences>File Locations, it will list the directories where it is storing your indexes, backups, and templates.

Good luck!

Theresa

New laptop and you just clicked on something? You don't say if you were actually in SKY or just booting up your laptop. If the latter it sounds like you might have turned on OneDrive and it's put all your files in the cloud. Microsoft is very keen for us to use it, and you have to keep your eye on the ball to make sure you don't turn it on by accident if you don't want it.

If it's moved them to the cloud and the preferences in SKY are still pointing at your hard drive then it won't find them. I believe others have posted before about issues with OneDrive and SKY. Not only that, if it's moved your clients files there, you might be in breach of contract because many of them say that you aren't allowed to store them on the cloud.

I've not turned OneDrive on, so I don't know what you need to do to sort it out but hopefully others can help.

Hello everyone, and thank you to the responders.

When the trouble began, I had clicked on something that Lenovo Vantage has been bugging me to do. I already had OneDrive. I did not have SKY open. I tried a couple of suggestions to recover the indexes. Someone more savvy than I am may have been able to recover them. The index I tried to import into SKY didn't go in, but the "name" of the other index appeared when I clicked on new, so I have to remember that, and not add entries to the wrong index. At some point soon I think I will just delete all my old indexes from my laptop, so they come out of the cloud or wherever they are. I have them on disk.

Anyway, I have re-input both indexes by now and have sufficient time before they are due.

Typing in the headings as fast as I could gave me an opportunity to view them objectively in a way I usually don't have a chance to, but I don't recommend that 😉

Thank you again,

Judy
