I found the index I recently did where I sent in the finished index that had two spaces and not different ones for main and sub1. I'm working in SKY 8.
First thing is it's not necessary to turn on Pattern Matching. This type of Find will find all sub1 entries.
Find: * [an asterisk with no spaces]
Field: Sub1
Group Results: yes
Instead of another Find, what about using the first Tool in the drop-down menu
Add Prefix to Selected Records.
That opens a box where you and I can choose which field. I'm choosing the Page field and the 'prefix' I'm inserting is a carat: ^
Well I didn't choose my field and it put a carat in front of all the main entries. Oops!
So I pressed Ctrl-Z to undo all that -- and it did.
Starting anew I chose the Page field to add the prefix to and that added just fine.
I exited the group and generated the index.
In Word, I searched for
spacespace^
and replaced with
space
That left additional page numbers for subentries with asterisks in front of them but that's easily remedied
Search for
asterisk
replace with
nothing -- not even a space.
Now all main entries have two spaces before the locator and all subentries have one space before the locator.
Hope that works for you!
