Find and Replace in locator column

Hi all.

I'm in the middle of an OUP index, and just realized they want notes to be indicated with [space n.] . I've been using just n. (ex: 43n67 is what I have and I want 43 n.67)

I did a find and replace on just [n] replacing n with space n point, and SKY only replaced the ns in the xrefs. So I did a search and grouped on n in the locator field, got it down to just the locators with notes, and ran the F&R again. SKY replaced the first three or four instances with space n, none of the rest, and did not include the point in any of them.

Has anyone been successful in this kind of F&R in the locator section? Is there a special way to indicate I want the point included?  F&R with locators is the only good option for a quick fix here, and this is really frustrating.

Hi Rudy,

In SKY 7 I have no problem with this kind of F&R.

In SKY 8 you can try to repeat your F&R after hiding your
cross-references. But the best solution might be to try to include the
space in front of "n." in the setting for the note designator.

If the above doesn't work, you can do this F&R in the generated index.
You would need nine F&Rs: "n.1" with " n.1" to "n.9" with " n.9",
assuming there are no such strings in your headings.

In Sky 8 you don't need to do find & replace for this.

In Options>Index>Locators scroll down to the section about notes.

In each of the three configurations, I added a space before the n and added a ^ after each of them.

Looking at note locators I had 398 n^8

Then I went to the translation table to make a translation for the carat to the period and discovered that translation was already there -- so it wasn't working.

Went back to defining the note configuration thusly:

 n.

(or space n period)

and it worked! I got 398 n.8

No find & replace and no translation needed.

Go wild Rudy!
