Does anyone use Sky to embed their index into a word manuscript.
I followed the instructions:
  1.  Highlight a record by clicking on its record button.
  2.  Grab any cell (I use the Main cell) and drag it across to the Word document.
  3.  Drop the entry in the appropriate place in the Word document. If you have never embedded index entries before, you'll notice that each entry is enclosed in curly braces; it begins with "xe " (telling Word it's an index entry);
But after dragging 'Wilson, Winifred' across from Sky to 'Winifred Wilson' in the word text, I ended up with the word symbol Pilcrow/that is the backward P, after my word in the word doc - not the 'xe....' descriptor.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Hi Sharon,

I use Sky when I do embedded indexing, but I don't use it alone. I use it in conjunction with DexEmbed, so I'm not using Sky's native embedding feature. I know others use WordEmbed (I used to use that one, until it stopped working after I upgraded my computer), which works in a similar fashion as DexEmbed.

I know that doesn't exactly answer your question, but I hope it helps to know that there are other alternatives. Using Sky alone for embedding seems like it would be rather clunky to me.

Thanks,
Cheryl

Hi Sharon,

I occasionally do an embedded index project just using SKY. I index as
usual with SKY 7, then embed the records to Word. It exactly works as
steps a., b., and c. you mention.

I tried to recreate your problem but can't. It shows up perfectly as {xe
"Wilson, Winifred"} wherever I drop it.

It helps to have Word and SKY Index side by side on your screen, so as
to see the process of dragging & dropping a record to Word. When
dragging a record the cursor becomes a prohibition sign while still
being above SKY and changes to an arrow + attached rectangle as soon as
it is above Word. Does it behave like that, too, when you are dragging a
record?

I had NO idea Sky even had this feature! This is blowing my mind.
Something to look into :)

I attempted this years ago as a practice and had the same problem or a similar one. I wrote to Kamm and he told me there is some setting that is needed, but I can’t remember even what section it was in.

Unfortunately I can’t find it in my saved emails going back seven years. I’m still recovering from cataract surgery and do not yet have glasses to be able to see on a computer to be able to search better than I can on the iPad (and to be able to read the results better).

Sorry to not be more help.

Dear Ælfwine,
Thank you for your response.

I'm hoping to do some training on this in 2025.

Best wishes,
