Hi folks,

Sending out another message... I really don't know what to do... I'm
unable to access the Sky 8's Options>Index (or Options>Document.) I can
access the other options. When I try to get to these two, it crashes.

As you know, Options>Index is really important... There's no way to
change your current settings without it (aside from a template you've
already created).

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Sky, I've talked to Kamm, nothing has
worked. It's very disturbing to me that uninstalling and reinstalling
the software hasn't worked!

I'm only able to use it now because I have had a couple indexes where I
didn't need to change the settings.

Any ideas? Any ideas how to get a FRESH copy of Sky that works?

Siusan

Did you try SKY 8 on another computer, maybe an older one?

Do you still have the opportunity to use SKY 7?

These are the only two ideas I can currently come up with.

That's what I was thinking -- it must be your machine. I'd borrow a computer, or rent one. Or test it on a friend's machine.
Since anything can go wrong anytime, I have a desktop and a laptop so I can continue to work if... well, if.

Yes, the question is if the problem would happen e.g. on one's laptop, too.

Here are two more ideas, although just makeshift solutions in the long run:

1) Try to find one of your SKY Index files with the settings you want
and work with a copy of it, deleting all old records.

2) Ask another SKY 8 user to provide an empty SKY 8 file with the
settings you want.

Thanks everyone. I will indeed try the file on another computer. It
doesn't solve my problem, which is pretty desperate and may cause me to
literally abandon Sky for another software, but it's something to try. I
may also make a new profile on my computer and see how Sky responds on
that...

It is, unfortunately, impossible to save a Sky 8 file as Sky 7. It is supposed to be, but I tried it when Sky 8 first came out, and it didn't work. Another indexer had the same experience.

It is because of problems like this that I went back to Sky 7--and I'm not the only one who went back because of technical problems with Sky 8.

Perhaps it depends on computer settings. I can save a Sky8 file as a Sky7 file, and have done so from time to time ever since I got Sky8.
