printing challenges

Hello colleagues,

This is another thing that has come up since I switched laptops. I am using SKY 7.

If I need to simply print the index, the print icon works just fine.

In the past I have been able to group what I need in the index, either in page order or alpha order, click on "tools" and then "proofing report" and print just that. Now I get a message that says "SKY index could not create the proofing report. Please make sure that the file is not already open in your word processor." I thought it would be this way with just the two indexes I was working on when I had to buy a new laptop, but I made new short test index, and the same message came up.

I'm unsure if this is something to do with just SKY, or is it with Microsoft 365 and/or OpenOffice? I downloaded OpenOffice, hoping to avoid paying for Microsoft 365 but was having trouble with it somehow. A friend of a friend who did some consulting for me said everything might work better with Microsoft 365, and maybe I should just bite the bullet and pay for it.

Anyway, I am not sure exactly what the message means by "word processor", how to tell if the index is open in it, and what to do about it. Any suggestions welcome.

Hello,

Is that really so? I only get this message when I already "printed" an
index (that is, generated and opened in Word) and this Word file is
still open. So one has to close the Word file first before "printing"
the index again.

If any other Word file is open not generated by SKY Index, it should be
possible to "print" an index and open it in one's Word (or whatever text
processing software one is using).

I'm still using Word 2016.

I can't find any copies of the index that are open. When I am done each night, I create the index with the print icon (this seems to automatically generate it), I save it to documents, close it, then attach it to an email from my personal account and send it to my business email. So the latest index is in documents and attached to an email. If there is an open version somewhere, where would it be hiding?

Hi Judy,

Close or rename any generated copies of the index that are currently open. That’s what the message is referring to - the path from Sky to the word processor (Microsoft 365, Open Office, etc. ) is not available because it is already in use.
