I found that one of the PDF copying issues is related to the font I use in SKY. Some are happy with Unicode, others aren't. I've been using Georgia for several years and it pastes diacritics well. If the font the book is in uses a character Georgia doesn't have then it doesn't work. In those instances, I find the annoying character in SKY's character map.
In the character map, there's an advanced view which opens when I click on the box next to those words. At the bottom of the larger box is a search function that works! I can type in 'a with macron' and it'll display all the ones upper case, lower case, etc. etc.
There's a list somewhere on the internet of Unicode fonts, but I haven't searched for it since I began using Georgia.
Using Georgia doesn't mean the output is in that font. I have a client who specifies Times New Roman which I can set in Options>Index>Heading Style.

I get this message on a pretty much daily basis in Sky 8. I never ask Sky to open Word, I just let it generate and open in Word separately. I haven't stopped to check if the index has generated, but if I go again it does and seems OK. I assumed it was Sky getting tangled with something Windows was doing in the background.

Still underwhelmed by Sky 8 - randomly not copying diacritics, some of the easy ones, in another text, they'll go into Sky 7 ok, and Notepad from whence I can copy into Sky 8. I assume it is something to do with the way the pdf was made. It's not all it was cracked up to be.

Hi Mary,

Just curious. Did you also try Index > Generate without opening your Word?

Then go to your File Explorer and open the rtf there.

It would be interesting to see if the notice would also come up or if it
also just generated 3/4 of one page.

I use Arial for input and Times New Roman for output. The current pdf is Times New Roman so far as I can see.

No more vanilla than that I would have thought.

You might want to try the Georgia Pro version of the font.
If you don't have the Georgia Pro font but want to install it on your computer, it is available for free in the Microsoft Store at https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9N9DZG1XT2MB?ocid=pdpshare
Or, if you have administrator rights on the computer, it can also be installed by doing "Manage optional feature" and adding the feature "Pan-European Supplemental Fonts".
