Hi all
I hope someone can help> I still use Sky 7. This morning whenever I try to create a new index I’m getting a window opening that says “Acronym Table Initialization Error”. There is a button to click ok and the window disappears. This has to be done before anything else. Then there are no functions initially, the newly created index does not load in the normal way. The only functions are options and help. Clicking on oprions seems to bring bank the functions but everything seems to relate to settings for a previous index. There is no data entry grid loading just a blank area where that would be. If I click on Acronyms Manager, Sky Closes. I’ve tried the help function but there’s nothing useful. Has anyone had this before? I’m very worried as I have a project I need to get started. I’ve tried rebooting the pc and restarting Sky but it makes no difference.
Thanks

Hi Deborah
I’ve reinstalled Sky following the steps you gave me and it has not fixed the problem! I’m getting in a real panic now!. I’ve also sent an email to Kamm. I just don’t know what to do!
Kind regards

What I would do is track down the Sky 7 .exe file and reinstall the program. Doing this only affects the program not your index files and doesn't take long.
Open SKY, click on Help, then About and write down your Activation License number..
Go to Settings>Apps>SKY Index Professional v7 and Uninstall it
Then Go to File Explorer
This PC>Windows (C:)>Program Files (x86)>(SKY Software)>SKY Index software>SKYIndexPro7.exe double click on that last one to reinstall it. This is where you'll need that Activation License number.
These steps should get you going again.

Hi Deborah
I don’t know which is the pesky file but I’ve followed your instructions to merge the last file I had open this morning and that hasn’t worked.

Oh darn. Okay.
Create a new index.
In it, go to File>File Management>Merge
It'll ask you to find the other file you want to merge into this one. Find that pesky file, select it, and click OK. This will merge it into the new file and not bring the old files' problems with it.
Sometimes putting a pesky file into a brand new one straightens it all out.
And I know you don't have time today, but do consider upgrading to v8. It's an expense, but it's a business expense and in the U.S. that's a tax deduction. Maybe not in the UK, but I hope so. SKY 8 isn't that difficult to transition to and does so much more than SKY 7.
You may not have heard from Kamm because most people here haven't waked up yet. It's not yet 6am here. He lives in Virginia, like I do but I'm a very early riser.
All the best,
Deborah

I like Jochen's idea. I've been using Sky since 2000, and I've never run across anything like this.
I also still use Sky 7. I own Sky 8, but I prefer to use Sky 7. If you have indexes that have worked, do a Save As to retain that one AND to create a new copy you can work on. Then delete the entries—as per Jochen’s suggestion—and create a new index.
I think you should also communicate with Kamm about the problem. He needs to know about it—regardless of which version you are using.
